I also wondered why with all of their resources they never did anything with the waterfront.I understand that geting permits and all the other stuff is tuff but I would think if any company could do it,it would be them.Maybe they are getting ready for a move.

They had a float there until about 1972 or so. I used to pick up lumber there with my lobster boat to work on floats over by NS Arts center.

I've heard scuttlebutt that the BC may be thinking about that! After all....it's been awhile since the last coal ship tied up to their docks!

After Stage Fort Park is developed, we could build a casino in Dogtown. I found an arrowhead in there once!

Great pictures Dunn,just goes to show how. limited space is available for businesses that need parking and dockage.
How about making more space and building a marina at Stage Fort Park,lots of parking ,lots of waterfront.
I wonder if the city ever considered doing something and maybe take advantage of DPA funding to build in this area.
I thought one of the points of being in DPA was that funding was available for projects like this.

Let's see...behind Dr. Martinetti's office could work for maybe one deep sea boat with a new pier long enough to get into deep water. But parking is iffy at best:

I understand that a couple of the Deepsea fishing boats could operate out of the East Gloucester Marina and if they cleaned up the parking lot behind the former Bob's Clam shack they would have enough parking.I haven't heard about the whale watch boat and I don't know where they could go and have enough parking.I wonder if the buyout includes all the boats or just a couple.I haven't heard anyone say if all boats are gonna run or just a couple.

Yes, you might get 30 cars in there by the Americold plant in East Gloucester. It would help for a charter fishing operation but not for a whale watch scene like they were running over at the Marina with that lot outside the Gull packed with cars. I guess I was hoping that they could locate all the boats in the same neighborhood if not at the same pier so operations would be more easily coordinated and customers could find the boats.

Roxie, the question is, did the Dominicks WANT to come to terms on a lease? I've been told that while the Hills wanted to stay, they were not exactly met with open arms. The Dominicks have other plans for the Marina. The Hills property is basically useless to them now because they have no permitted frontage on the canal. They'll probably try to sell it now, to anybody but the Dominicks.

I am working on a dory in that parking lot behind Dr Martinetti's office (putting a new outer stem on it). It has always been my understanding that Americold owns the property. That lot is really not very big by the way. The pilings were for the Phyllis A pier as I remember.

I'm not so sure about those grand plans .... :-o They couldn't come to terms on the lease .... and they were at it for years. People can be weird.

The Hills own the parking area across from the Causeway Restaurant and the property to the left of it behind the Essex Ave. houses back to the water .....

Who owns that derelict parcel between Americold and the dentist's office on E. Main? Plenty of parking there. All they need to do is cleanup all the rotting pilings and dredge it a bit, throw down some dockage.

I understand that the Dominick family has a large expansion planned for the Marina, including new motel, function hall, lounge, boat slips etc, and they couldn't move forward with these plans with the yankee fleet there. The big commercial fleet didn't coexist with the pricier yachts that they're looking to attract.

I have a hunch that the big problem will be parking. There is dock space here and there, but not with big parking lots. As I understand it the boats going to East Gloucester Marine have worked out a parking arrangement with the restaurant across the street, but that does not seem very handy or permanent.
The other difficulty is not having a permanent location, easily found, with all the boats there.
As Joe said, this is one of the uses specifically allowed in the designated port...
