GoA, you don't want Verizon dsl, (now known as High Speed Internet). The copper infrastructure here, owned by VZ, is far too old and oxidized for it to be reliable anyway. We should lean on our Cable Committe to lobby VZ to bring Fios in as VZ would do well here competing with Comcast.

Oh, you mean your cable bill has been going up just like your electricity, water, sewer, oil, phone and every other monthly bill has? So surprising..... The cable committee is as useless and inept as every other one in this pitiful city. Jeez, ipswich has Fios and they certainly don't have the population density of Glo. Makes one wonder doesn't it.

Was it possible that you had one of their deals in which the first few months were at a discount after which you go to the normal rate? Or perhaps they were billing you incorrectly as such?

One thing to try is to call Comcast and tell them you are ready to end your cable service to switch to DirecTV, unless they can do something for you in lowering the price. I did this, and they knocked $20 bucks of my digital cable service provided that I agreed to keep it for a year, which I would be doing anyway (since FIOS is still a long way off). I have some other service that they couldn't change, like HD and DVR boxes, but still, 20 bucks off the bill was pretty good.

Watch out! I had comcast in CA. before coming home here and that is all they do. The service gets worse and the price gets higher. As soon as they took over for Adelphia I started shopping around and switched to Direct TV. Huge savings! Dishnetwork is also cheaper. watch for specials and you can save a bunch! Also verizon offers package deals with direct tv and internet that will save you.

One thing Comcast excels at is instant reinstatement if you miss a bill and pay online or by phone.

If you have Comcast Internet, you can access your current and past statements via Your Account on the Comcast.net page. And, just as an FYI, I tried the online chat thing and it was awful. But everytime I call 1-800-COMCAST (even late at night) I wind up getting a really nice human being.

They must serve donuts in their call centers....

I don't think the city gets anything. comcast had to pay for the equipment & studio & training and give a discount to seniors but that is all I think.

It's too bad we don't have the option of FIOS on Cape Ann. Those of us who want broadband internet and digital cable don't have an alternative to COMCAST. (No I don't have a place to put a dish.)

I've also noticed that the "one-time charge" on my bill is going up each month.

Between January and February my bill went up over $3 - between February and March, it's up $26.00 !!!
What's up with that????
