I just got back from North Carolina and their flag men were convicts. Seems like a good use of idle manpower. I wonder if they are making the same amount of money per hour as the cops up here?

Especially with Patrick's big infratructure plan. Estimated at pumping 3.8 billion into the economy. How much of that will be DETAILS? A total waste!

Lake - no it's not jealousy of the police. I have never been jealous of what they do, as I think it is a demanding, wicked job, and not of their pay, God knows. My point here is that flagmen and women work wonderfully, at a lot less money. Massachusetts just needs to give it a try, and no time like the present.

Exactly. Overtime and details do not count towards retirement calculations.

retirement is on base pay and does not include overtime for city employee's

I know teachers get up to 80% of highest three year salary but How is the police retirement calculated?

Jason, there is a civil service exam for "Police Officer Cities and Towns" coming up soon maybe you should take it.Your a bright guy hopefully you will get a job and then be able to refrain from this obviously jealous obsession you have with cop bashing......Let it go.......

I mentioned the Quinn bill and contractual add-ons as a matter of fact and clarification - I wasn't making a judgement on them. If left to Insiders example, one might get the impression that the base salary was the only factor in the retirement calculation and it isn't. JG

First thing's first prior to being signed by the Governor it was the Quinn Bill, it is now a LAW and as such would have to be legislated out. Second a couple of years ago there was a big crack down of "diploma mills" and it is no longer the case. Third education is never wasted and with that officers are held to a higher level by the judicial system.....

It's a start -- and our legislators, both Sen. Tarr and Rep. Verga, should be encouraged to support Baddour's effort -- write em, email em or call em... this is the first time in too long that a state legislator has had the gumption to even begin the process of tackling this issue.
