The paint factory is an issue we are capable of seeing solutions to and perhaps even a satisfactory outcome. The state of the city is so frustrating and hugely daunting that I can not imagine being saddled with Carolyn Kirk's responsibility.

The PF has become what Rockport's Motif is. Tourist are drawn to that little red shack even though it's really Motif#1 II! On the other hand the PF is more than just an old abandoned manufactoring plant.It's Gloucester's legacy. It's a symbol of our history, present and future, an icon of the harbor of what it's been in terms of manufacturing,fishing and tourism. The PF has withstood all phases of our harbor's workings,the sight of it gives us natives the feeling...

I think that it is great that finally somebody may be able to redevelop that property, but I must admit I'm dumbfounded that this has generated as many comments as it has when compared to the city budget thread. Doesn't anyone still care about the state of the city....

There is a stone pier at the Paint Factory now. It is not very deep and I think would need a float alongside to get to deep enough water. They would need to put clusters of pilings or dolphins at the bow and stern because the Oddessy is much longer than the pier is wide.

they dont do recerch for free its a non profit but the recerchers get paid a good buck dont be fooled people

I still think it is passing strange that their research boat, Odyssey, has not left the dock since coming to Gloucester well over a year ago. What gives?

Yes, I suppose "education" could imply museum and/or whale watch, but the email I received clearly nixes both.

That sounds like a good thing to me! As Damon points out research facilities tend to attract the kind of business that is good for a community.

Joe remember that even if they don't pay local property taxes are still not requiring the same services 6 condos would. Condo development costs the city more than it collects in taxes. So be careful how you measure your bottom line.
