areas, more than a day after the quake hit. The Wolong National Preserve where the highlands are almost 1000 meters high, is a panda breeding center, the only
place in the world where the rare animals can be seen in such large numbers. The sanctuary also focuses on bamboo...

Ok. I guess my information was wrong. The span of damage is the equivalent of Maine to Arizona. That hardly seems contained. Have some friends traveling there
as we speak. Hope all is well with them and that their journey is not too scary.

The Chinese had some luck predicting a large quake with the help of animals acting strangely after feeling foreshocks of an impending quake. Many lives were
saved that time, but the next time there were no foreshocks, so many died. All kinds of animals, especially small ones, seem to have a sensitivity to impending
quakes. Pandas seem too slow and laid back to even care.

I have to say...the whole story is so tragic and scary. It could happen anywhere. Glad about the pandas and CNN is reporting that the major damage was actually
just right in that immediate area. Not to diminish the situation at all...but at least it was somewhat contained
