I scooted on over to the support forums ....
"We hace a switch that has failed we are in the process of redireting all traffic to fail over equipment. you might experience slowness and or white pages while we do this. We appreciate your patience while our technicians work to correct this issue." Typos and all ..... |

And I thought it was just me the last week or so. Last weekend I upgraded Norton 360 to Version 2 and had a problem that involved calling tech support. After 4
hours of phone calls and remote access chat with a nice young man in India...I was up and running again. However since then, when I click on my desktop
shortcuts to various sites (including this one) the short cuts don't always work. If I go directly to Internet Explorer and type in the physical address,
it will work most times.
Anyone here experiencing this type of problem? After thinking about it, I manually typed in the address and once the sites were opened, I created new shortcuts to my desktop. At first they worked fine, but now I still having a connection problem with them now and then. I'm sorta confused as to why this is happening...I use my shortcuts every day for some things and it's ticking me off that it won't connect. Damn it. Anyone else update their Norton 360 lately?

I don't know about Norton, but if you turn off your protection momentarily and try your links, you'll know it is not IE settings if the links work. If
they don't work, you can try resetting your IE security ( tools/internet options/security/ reset all zones to default) then try again. If they still
don't work, it's time to look at Norton. (Don't forget to turn your protection back on!)

Thanks OH, but I did that already. I did find that IE was reusing windows to open programs and I unchecked that and got better results after that. I'm
pretty sure all my IE options go through Norton anyway. I loathe to turn off the protection and I don't think IE will open if I don't have Norton
turned on...recalling this from times when Norton was turned off before. So far today hasn't been so bad, so we'll see what happens the rest of today.

Norton 360, McAfee, TrendMicro and other big vendors have turned their products into bloatware that bogs down computers by trying to do too much simultaneously. If you have a new machine with a super-fast processor and tons of RAM, you might be able to run those programs successfully. Otherwise, remove them from your computer or they will drive you crazy! We see it all the time in my shop. Customer says their computer is running dog-slow and having connectivity issues and other weird behavior. After we uninstall Norton 360, McAfee or TrendMicro the computer all of a sudden starts acting like a brand-new machine, zippy and problem-free. Just get AVG for free and avoid all that hassle. |

Good advice, B! I use AVG and never ever have a problem with it. Why pay for bloatware? Do what he suggested, For. You'll be glad you did.

I actually did use AVG at one time and it was fine for Anti-Virus protection. However, I like the added security that Norton's 360 provideds (Internet
Security as well as automatically cleaning up of files each day, disk optimization, etc) As I mentioned before, I have never been able to back up my
files...but with Norton 360 I can back up everything to an offline website at preset scheduled times. I have been using Norton for years now, (had McAfee once,
didn't care for it) and I can honestly say that I have not had a virus in my computer. (At least none that caused any damage) and with the new 360 I get NO
spam at all. I'll stick with it for now. Once you have set your preferences, it does what it is supposed to when your computer is inactive and can be set
to turn off your computer once the tasks are done. Works for me.
I also use Ad-Aware but I see that AdAware SE is no longer supported. I am unsure if I will download the newest free version as of yet. Not sure how it will react with Norton 360. |

I hope you enjoy Norton 360.
I won't be. No problems on my end. I still use Spybot-Search & Destroy because of its highly effective Immunize feature. |

Ad-Aware and Spybot .... I find that each picks up things the other doesn't. And ya gotta keep them updated.
And AVG. I've never had a virus .... a coupla nasty malware/trojans (damn porn sites, :-O ). I had one major sucky malware thing once .... both Ad-Aware and Spybot saw it, but couldn't immunize or remove it. I ended up having to download a leetle tiny program designed just to rid me of that bugger. |

I have a whole freaking arsenal of tools against malware and virii and must often adapt on the fly. The nasties mutate faster than we can copulate. Hard to
keep it up.

Is Anti-Vir (free) included? Tops the ratings of av-comparatives.org - only website I trust in terms of comparative studies.

Boycott multifunction bloatware.
If you have more than 30 processes running on your pc at idle, your pc needs help. Ctrl-Alt-Del will show you. |
