That yuppies from East Gloucester complained to the right people and the City has "asked" Captain Carlo's to put up a sound barrior wall blocking
views of the harbor from the restaurant.

No, yuppies like those kinds of tunes. Relax, what's wrong tonight?
The water carries all kinds of sounds. |

Nothing wrong just think its kind of rediculous that City officials would try to squash music on Harbor Loop. Complaints about music or noise should start
with the Mad fish which is a lot closer to where complaints generated.

You obviously don't live where the effect is magnified because it booms off the water.

Oh my god - not the yuppies again! First they are NOT peeing in their showers then they are allegedly opposing a micro brewery in the fort and now they are
complaining about music at Harbor Loop. Sounds like an invasion.

Your right I don't live across the harbor but I do think its a bit rediculous that a business that has thrived and transformed itself over the past few
seasons and has a good reputation amongst people in the city could just be forced to alter one of its more alluring features- views of the working waterfront
and passing by boats

I have no problem with what you're saying but there is a noise ordinance that is enforced.

Brainfix if you would allow me to ask a few questions. What's your initial opinion of the new mayor? of the proposed shopping center? extending a road to
Rockport off of Blsckburn? and the report of a possible Marriott on the Fort?

Dose Gloucester have a DB rated noise ordinance? Many citys do after hours for bars etc.
One mans noise is anothers music right? |

Capt Carlo's doesn't bother me,but the Harbor House for some reason is getting louder & louder. I can hear thump, thump, thump on weekend nights with
my windows closed! This summer they better tone it down or I'll complain!

New mayor: good.
Sam Park's Folly? Sam Park's Folly. Road to Rockport via Blackburn? GO! Marriott on the the Fort? Bring it on. |

People actually go to the Harbor House? I never see cars there during the week.

You didn't need to hear anything through the grapevine ... if you went to city meetings you'd see who and hear what.
I said before on another thread about this .... I love outdoor venues ....and especially on the water, but yeah .... I understand the noise factor. And yep, the water does funky things. I don't know if Cruisesport has had any outdoor events with entertainment, but the same concerns were expressed way back about the noise on the water ... I think they were given a "we'll see how it goes." Lat43 didn't get an outdoor entertainment license (someone posted here that they did get a trial period to show movies on the deck). So I don't think anyone is picking on Capt. Carlo's ... and I think the city is working with them. Yeah ... it's a great spot and it sucks that it won't be the same .... but I see the other side, too. And frankly .... he started with a "just few picnic tables outside" .... |

Could be worse. In Sedona, you can only paint your home city-approved colors.

Never mind the yuppies, who might "the right people" be?

There is an ordinance dictating 55db at the property line. However these establishments hold entertainment permits which exempt them during certain hours and
days. If Gloucester were to silence weekend entertainment then they would terminate the majority of tourisim as well.

Thanks for the clarification, Gandalf. Seems reasonable if limits apply and there is enforcement of any violations. Sometimes it seems the same folks who
complain about things which businesses "impose" on the community also whine about high taxes and economic shortfall. Can't have it both ways.
Live and let live.

why can't the 'wall' be made of plexiglass?? then you could still "see" the harbor

Better yet, provide some seating on the far side of the wall for folks who want a less intense aural experience... perhaps avec conversation...
