I suppose the best thing to try is not using the computer for a couple of days to see if the symptoms improve. The trouble is, both people depend on computers for their livelihoods. Thoughts?

Computer-triggered allergies? |
Lead | |
|
Two people I know who use computers daily for hours at a time have developed allergic reactions like sneezing, increased mucus production, coughing, headaches
and eye strain. Doing a little research brings up some interesting theories but nothing authoritative. Some sites mention ozone given off by computer equipment
or triphenyl phosphate given off by computer monitors. Both people with the allergic symptoms had recently switched from CRT to LCD monitors.

Supposing it could be be true, seems highly unlikely. Have they been tested by a doctor/allergist?
Otherwise, diagnosis: allergic to work. |

My guess, as someone who has loads of cranial issues with respect to my neck and upper back, is it is the position you sit in while at the computer. Hunching
over and slouching compromises your spinal alignment and causes sinus issues, congestion, and headaches.
I had a friend once who SWEARS that his stomach issues were caused by the way he sat at his computer. When he got an ergonomically correct seat and re-adjusted the height of his keyboard and mouse pad...the issues subsided. He thinks that the way he sat caused inflammation in his upper abdomen and that it went away when he was seated properly. Who knows? He may be on to something. |

Not quite sure, actually. Can't you tell us. You are the computer guru. How do YOU sit at your computer. Most of the time...I am on the couch with the Mac
on the lap.

Proper position for computer use---Put feet up, sit back in comfy chair, use head phone and microphone, beverage in right hand, mouse commanded via voice, # 2
monitor large screen TV, talk away. At most you'll spill your beverage. Food to left on TV table . No carpal tunnel. # 1 monitor for command list needed to
control computer by voice is essential.
PS wireless head set saves ya from dragging your laptop on the way to the can. It works ! Try it. If ya want to be serious, get a secretary.

Excellent synopsis, old buddy! No food or drinks near your keyboard. Key.

Depends on personality type. I can't recline like that without falling asleep. Have to sit up straight to stay awake.

Voice commands are preferable, but often fall short of expectations. You found a good one, it seems. Will it accept favorite pet sounds?

Uh... say again why you need animal sound effects?

Reference #1-- Do not allow ambiant noise when training the computer to learn your language. Talk about eating memory? wow. My mistake !)! 101.
