Join me in posting comments on this blog denouncing this ridiculous practice along with entries touting lobster rolls that contain lettuce and paprika. BLASPHEMY! By the way, the blog he does is pretty good. He takes some very nice pictures. They were delicious! Big chunks of lobster were in a hot buttery, hollandaise-like sauce and served in a crunchy, hot bun. Heresy, I realize, but they were wonderful. The lobster was fresh and wonderful, but the "melted butter" was FREAKIN' MARGARINE!!!! No wonder they call them Maniacs!!!!!

Actually, thanks for stopping by the blog... I have to say that half of the places at which I had lobster rolls were recommended by locals as preferred by locals, not tourtists. And it was off season, so it wasn't as touristy, though we were pure tourists. It sounds like I may have to take a trip all along the coast, trying different lobster rolls, to see if there are regional differences more than just restaurant to restaurant... The others had a fair amount of lobster, too, but the iceberg lettuce was way too much bitterness. The baguette version was a big sandwich, but the lobster ended up being spread out too much. I felt I got my money's worth, but, seeing as other rolls are available close by, I'd not get that again. The first two, the lettuce was just one layer, so not really filler at all. And if these were all bad examples of lobster rolls, I can't wait to try better ones! The buttered and toasted NE style hotdog bun is critical, I think. Celery would be way too strong of a taste; you'd never find the lobster flavor in there at all. One of the best things I had while in Maine, though, was a dish of mussels steamed in Shipyard beer. I was hungry and forgot to take pictures! Something I learned, though, is that I need to spend more time in New England. I'd never been up your way, but I fell in love with it immediately. Here in Ohio, New Englanders have a rep for being unfriendly. I'd also heard that about Brits. In both cases, the rep was wrong. Of course, no one wanted to hear all about me; asking about the area, local food, etc., usually gets people being friendly quickly. So in Gloucester, where's a good place to stay?

There's a "go fuck yourself" attitude around here that is annoying at the best of times. Just look at the way people drive, for an example. I'd leave here if I could, and the only place in New England I'd consider is back in Maine.
