So the question is -- which restaurant in town would you go to if you were only going to have one fish meal ever?

Question for the Board Foodies |

A friend of mine and fellow long-time vegetarian is visiting this weekend. Last night she confessed that she is debating "falling off the wagon" and
eating fish for the first time in years. She admitted that she probably couldn't do anything that still looked like sea-life - so no lobsters or shrimp or
anything. I'm guessing a fried fish sammy of some sort would be more on order.
So the question is -- which restaurant in town would you go to if you were only going to have one fish meal ever? |

Are you going for upscale or more casual dining?

I had an awesome pan seared sashimi tuna steak at The Franklin back in April. It was awesome, like buttah! If she just wants a good fish sandwich, Amelias has
a pretty good fried haddock sandwich with fries for around $8. I've never eaten at Duckworths, but I hear their fish dishes are good.

I say bring the frisbee and head over to The Cupboard for a fish sandwich if its a nice day. Then you can stroll around Stage Fort.
I'd suggest other places if you wanted a fish dinner but if its a simple fish sandwich then The Cupboard or Lobster Pool will do. You can brown bag your booze at the Lobster Pool. |

Had the Caesar Salad with grilled swordfish at the Causeway the other night and it was WONDERFUL!
True art is moral: it seeks to edify life, not to debase it, to hold off, at least
for a little while, the twilight of the gods and of us.

I agree with Joe on this one. For just a plain ol' fish sangwich, head to the Cupboard, $4.50 for the sang, add fries or slaw to that! Plus, you
don't have to go far (or anywhere) for the post-meal icecream...
For fried seafood plates, I like Essex Seafood on 133 more than the others in that neck of the woods. I haven't been to the Lobster Pool before (probably because it is WAY up in Rockport), how is it there?

On an unrelated, but 'foodie' note nonetheless, went to the Pleasant St. Tea Company with the wife yesterday. We got a brie and apple panini and a turkey/salami/provolone panini, both oh so good. Dogtown berry iced tea was refreshingly good, and Milkyway coffee, decadent. We will definitely being going back. Anyone else have a good menu pick worth trying there? |

The Berry and Cream Iced Tea is rockin good at Pleasant St Tea and Coffee Bar.
I'm looking forward to those this summer on a hot afternoon. |

Thanks for the suggestions! I guess we'll wait and see what the weather's like before we make our final decision.
I think she knows about the "feeling ill" thing - I've told her about the time a waitress promised me the french onion soup was vegetarian - oops! But apparently she has fond memories of fish sticks as a kid and wants to relive them in the home of the Gorton's Fisherman LOL! |

The "girls" and I (about 17 of us) went to Cruiseport for dinner a few weeks ago, and at least half of them had the "all you can eat" fish
fry. They said it was delicious (it was haddock), and about half of the half ordered another "round."
The second portion was equally as large as the first, and they could have more slaw and fries, too, if they wanted. Not a bad deal at all if you're going to eat fish "once." Oh, and it comes in "cubey" shapes, so it doesn't look like what it used to be!! |

Most seaside joints offer fish sandwiches around here. Whether it's Capt. Carlo's, Tom Shea's, Madfish or Lobstaland, you're bound to score.

Not too many bad places for fish sandwiches, IMO. Some of the best I've had were Cupboard, Gloucester House, Fish Shack (very good), and believe it or not,
Flavs last summer.

I think it was around $8.99 or so, Elli. They all seemed to think it was a fabulous deal.
