well, i don't miss all of the cigarette butts in the street or on the sidewalk (i used to see the morning clean-up guy throw all of the butts from the ashcan in the street), and i don't miss the occassional drunks that made their way into the store.

it is the last of West End bars that lined the street when i was a teenager. no more bar crawls that usually ended at the dug out, because one just couldn't drink anymore. that was a long, long time ago.

our town is becoming sanitized. it is a good thing, it is a sad thing.

i must admit that every once in a while i miss the scent of fish and dehyde (unless i am behind a leaking gurry truck on a hot summer day, and i am stuck i traffic).

gloucester was a bit more rough and tumble, and scary on its main street when i was kid in the 60's and 70's. it can still be a hard town to grow up in, all of the troubles just got pushed away from the main st.
