Kennedy update |

How great it was to see him leave the hospital, head home to the compound and head right out for a sail. Report was that his wife is boggling that he wants to
go ahead with sailing in a regatta this weekend. Good on him! That kind of attitude is what scares the Beast into submission-----love life and live it!
There'll be more than enough time to ponder and research all the treatment options next week.

I would hope that I could be that brave. Not sure though. Must be reassuring to know how many millions are praying and wishing you well.

What's the alternative, doom and gloom till the end? Why bother with that shit.

Furthermore, if I had terminal (eventually) cancer, no way would I go through chemo and radiation with its side effects and sickness...let me loose and I'd
fly and laugh and indulge for as long as possible...

Twould be instructive to see how we indulge.

I saw this thread, and my first thought was the unrelenting coverage by the Boston media. How many times can you repeat the same facts? It got down to what his
wife was wearing on WHDH! Tuned into the news at 5PM, and they dedicated the first full half-hour to this "news". Well, after a while, it's not
"news" anymore. Not one mention of any other news event (or weather) the full half hour. I couldn't bare anymore of it, to see if the program
directors had gotten over their kennedyphilia. Hope the guy can make the best of what he's got left. Hope his wife's clothing forever lies on the floor
next to his bed, maybe then we won't have to hear about her wearing it. This all just makes me dread the day Mick Jagger dies. I'd bet even 'FNX
will bog down the airwaves with their own good-byes with another over-rated poor actor.

I hear you, Realist, but the truth is that these days there are many alternatives chemo and radiation wise which don't at all have particularly horrid side
effects. Certainly many of the gold standard treatments which have been around for a while are harsh though sometimes necessary and often quite effective, but
even then the control of side effects has come a long, long way just in the past few years. The treatment mentioned as possible (or likely apparently) for
Kennedy is one of those which has minimal side effects and most people continue their usual daily routines while being treated. Now the radiation delivered
directly via tiny implants and things like cyberknife surgery are forging all new paths for treatment of cancers with comparatively little adverse effects and
rapid recovery times, too. We have to update our beliefs a bit, I think.

My best friend's sister had the same tumor, in the same spot, which presented itself initially with a seizure.
She was diagnosed quickly, and treatment of both radiation and chemo were introduced soon thereafter. The tumor didn't shrink much, so about six months into it she was given gamma irradiation/laser treatments. Initially, the treatment had some effect, but it didn't last long. She died on New Year's Eve a year and a half later at the age of 51. |
