My employer provides Medco Healthcare Solutions as their prescription drug coverage provider. Medco is a PBM (Prescription Benefit Manager), and along with CareMark and ExpressScripts, cover about half of the people in this country. I would expect some of you are covered by a PBM. Medco does an OK job on reimbursing local pharmacies, but under certain circumstances require that their members use the Medco mail order pharmacy. Their service in this regard is horrendous! Seriously late deliveries, conflicting information, inappropriate charges, swapping drugs, cancelling orders, rude customer service, inability to talk to a manager, confusing policies, etc., etc, have made the simple act of filling a prescription a nightmare. It is my understanding that CareMark and ExpressScripts are also difficult to work with, but Medco is the worst overall. They are also in financial trouble and are a nightmare to work for. I did some digging (websites below) to help encourage my employer to dump these bozos. Looking closely at their performance, I strongly suspect Medco to be the next Enron.
