I guess it doesn't show up
all that well here, but the photo is of a cluster of white birches which I planted 6 years ago, and which is now about 3 times its original size. It seems it
has been getting every thing it needs, but I haven't given it a thing other than an occasional light pruning.
On the other hand, I planted a large Crimson King maple last spring and have had a lot of trouble with it. I watered it often and put in nutrient plugs. I bought it large so that we could enjoy it for the next few years before downsizing plans kick in. Last Summer it got infested with those nasty bugs which were rampant on Cape Ann. I managed to get them under control, but lost a lot of leaves in the process. Later in the Summer, it began to wilt and look pretty sad. I had a landscaper friend look at it, who diagnosed the problem as being "sun-stalled". Has anybody else heard of this? Also, about the time it begins to (hopefully) bud, I want to get a very skilled arborist to come by and offer his or her judgement on the prospects for this tree. Any recommendations?
