To mate in the vernal pools, of course. Every year someone puts up signs on Harlow Street in Essex on the first warm day of spring after a rain. Supposedly,
the salamanders rouse themselves and cross Harlow Street in mass numbers. I've never seen them but keep hearing about the phenomenon. Has anyone ever seen
them?
