Absolutely the bottom of the barrel, imo, so far in this election year. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it, while clicking thru the channels just as the question was asked.

Cheap Shot at McCain. |
Lead | |
|
Last night at a forum, (May have been the annual mtg.of journalists, which was highlighted by humor, and had VP Cheney, doing his schtick, (excellent by the
way.) McCain was asked by a low life wise guy, if he'd ever made out with a Jewish woman, an apparent attempt to make his position on the Middle East,
and oil, look duplistic. The Vietnam war hero rolled his eyes back into his head, as his wife swept to his side. He didn't respond, as audience groans
were evoked, in a roar. The moment was repeatedly re-played, but isn't around this am.
Absolutely the bottom of the barrel, imo, so far in this election year. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it, while clicking thru the channels just as the question was asked. .

I didn't see/hear of that question and, I agree, that instance seems to be a cheap shot.
However, if you look at the grand overview of media treatment of the three main candidates, McCain has really seen the most blatant preferential treatment. Take, for example, the "grilling" by the AP Press Corps. Wherein McCain was given his favorite treat, coffee with a little cream and a little sugar and donuts with sprinkles. (See last paragraph of article) And Obama was confused for the most murderous terrorist to ever cry Jihad on this country. An interesting take on it here: http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/04/15/media/index.html |

Oak, I believe you're referring to the journalists' gathering which is supposed to be comedy. Didn't have anything to do with the election
campaign or the forum. I think you may have them confused. Did you hear Cheney's classic (I have to give credit where due although clearly he was only the
deliverer of the line, not the author) that Clinton was just confusing Bosnia for having gone hunting with him. That WAS funny.
Oooops, I wasn't responding to the McCain thang. Sorry. But like turnstoney, I liked the "cheat shot".

Missed the, um, "cheap shot" (?) at McCain but I wonder, oakarina, if that might have been Mo Rocca asking the question. Perhaps he should have
asked "Ever make out with Lieberman?"
The "joke" is minor compared to what a lot of people would have said to McCain. |

you dont have to agree with his politics but the man is a hero and should be respected

the stink man is correct...John McCain should be respected and sad to say too few know why!

Uh huh, McCain should be respected...? Shouldn't everyone? You know, the fellows who went to war like John Kerry, *Rev. Wright, Max Clelland...?
When toadies like McCain attend these dinners they should expect a few barbs. Glad to hear his wife protected his feelings. *(F.Y.I., Rev. Wright left college and joined the Marines during Viet Nam. Can't say the same for Cheney & Bush). |

Not often Mya and I agree 100%. MMYY, too.
I dont' know what a "toadie" is, Turnstoney, but I know what a hero is, my brother also a Vietnam fighter pilot. In his 80's, now, in good health and still a great guy, with lots of friends and admirers. He left college, and enlisted in the Air Force, during the beginning of the Korean War, was stationed in Sitka, Alaska during the Korean War, with the Air Defense command. (I'll have to email him about the Totem Poles in Rpt, this week. I hope he doesn't know of the Mc Cain slur. It would infuriate him. His son, my nephew, also served in Bosnia, as a helicopter pilot. They are both, no doubt, going to vote for McCain, as I probably would, if I were a Republican career military man. The press, media, need to show some restraint and objectivity. Imo, the American people, are totally fed up with the coverage of the "08" Presidential campaign to date, as it tries to get sides clanging, bamging against each other. The Mc Cain insult, slur last night was gross "throw up"time,
which will hopefully create a backlash within the media against itself!

Being a war hero is indeed something to be proud of and should command its due respect. Absolutely. But let's not lose site of the fact that governing a
country isn't just about being brave. It's about being aware, being measured, and having good judgement.
The reality is that John McCain is not measured (note many instances of volatile emotions), isn't aware (not cognizant of the distinctions between Sunni and Shia) and doesn't have good judgement (by all accounts - even Republican, his economic plan would result in an even more disastrous economic climate than we're in now). I'm not saying he shouldn't be respected and thanked for his service to his country. But that's not what the Presidency is all about. (And I won't even get into the fact that I don't think one good action, however great, outweighs many other decisions which may have been slightly more suspect....) |

So, Kalesygal, do you think either Obama or Hillary are "measured?" If so, how so??

I think both Hilary and Obama are more "measured" than McCain - but much more so Obama.
Why so? See his reaction at last night's debate where he was continually grilled about non-substantive issues that he's addressed time and again. Could you tell he was angry or upset? Yes. Did he remain calm, collected and tactful? Yes. And, for an even greater example, just watch a video about his speech on Rev. Wright. Obama is a true statesman. These days, America has a pretty bad rep overseas and we need someone who can not only unite the country but can get us some much-needed respect overseas. And as much respect as we owe McCain for serving his country valiantly, other countries don't respect him because he doesn't understand the critical nuances of statemanship. In short, John McCain is a guy I'd like to buy a beer. But, we saw where that mentality got us for eight years. |

Obama really had no choice but to remain "calm," etc. His own mouth has already gotten him in hot water this week. He can't afford anymore gaffes
of any kind, can he?
He's a Trojan Horse of sorts, IMO ... and, if we're lucky, we'll live to regret electing him president. |

I just have to chuckle at some of your responses. Obama is far more genuine a person than Hillary will ever be. McCain still wants to raise Cain, stay at war
and keep us in thrall to a dying way of governing.
I especially liked the Trojan Horse comment. MissD, you sure know how to deal poor cards. |

All you Bush supporters: including Dimps. Better hold your fire until the weekend!
from AP, Th.4/17,4:36 pm, British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and Pres. Bush push tough approach on Iran. Bush called Tehran "untrustworthy"while speaking with British PM, Gordon Brown, after meetings today in the White House. (Talk about your understatements! "UNTRUSTWORTHY," INDEED! Call the terrorists spies, bombers, liars, murderers, SPADES!!!!!!!) Brown will make Boston's JFK Library the site of his first speech in the U.S. since taking office last June, 2007. The Library will shut down to the public, and researchers, for the entire day of Boston's speech, acc. to Library officials. It's the only speech Brown is scheduled to give during his visit to the United States. Bush is trying to get all his buddies to support him, in further isolating Iran, and helping to lower oil prices. He wants to leave office looking a knight in Shining Armor. At least, King Arthur wasn't a complete phony, like Dubyah! BARF. |

I won't attempt to analyze your post, oak. Needless to say, if Iran is bombed, we'll see $5/gal. gas, a tanking stock market and world-wide
instability.
Bushco is determined to bomb and spurns all efforts at diplomacy. Bush doesn't know how to be diplomatic. |

Just like his Daddy did. They're both scum of the worst kind. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

Both members of Bohemian Grove situated in the woods along the
Russian River in one of America's gayest enclaves in Californicate.
Kinda gay, if you ask me. I was there for two of them, flood years. I was stationed there doing public health outreach. It was easy to get dates with women and have a hay old time. Was one of the more fun places I've lived. Drifting on the river in an inner tube, mid eighties, dry and sweet. Miserable long grey wet winters. Went through the two floods in 95. Wicked muddy fun!

Lordy, lordy ... What part of "I didn't vote for Bush the first time around and ONLY voted for him the second time around because I couldn't stand
Kerry" don't you get?
Besides, this isn't about Bush. Bush is old news and on his way out and the new guy/girl is coming in. THAT is whose character, etc., is up for discussion here. I've also said that if the election were held a few months ago, I would have voted for Hillary. So don't go thinking you've got me pegged as a "Bush supporter," 'cause it just ain't so! So, since I've said from the beginning that we could live to regret Obama's presidency, how about addressing that instead of changing the focus ... again ... |
