As of this moment, won 3- lost 3. Japan trip took its toll. Just ask Big Papi - except the usually gregarious big guy is so furious he isn't talking...to
anyone outside the dugout.

Heard something about the new Yankee Stadium being under a "curse" because they buried a Red Sox shirt under the locker room? Pretty funny. Glad
someone has a sense of humor. Bwahahahahaaa.
Yeah, poor Papi. This sucks. He's always a slow starter, but this is ridiculous. That off-season surgery on the knee sounds like some of the problem. The reports were of ice packs yesterday on that knee. And poor Mike Lowell. But Youk is on fire already. |

Give Mikey time...I have faith in him. Youk has taken off like a bullet! Deserves much credit. Did you see him get slammed in the chest by a line drive last
game? Jumped right up like nothing happened. How about Manny going through the red light...mind on the game, Manny?

I meant to ask a few days ago -- what did you all think about Bill Buckner getting such an enthusiastic welcome on opening day?
|
|||

Time to let that fiasco go - Bill has suffered enough. Can't go back and change history. In other words, I was very pleased that the Sox and fans showed
some class.

While I heartily agree with Bill Buckner getting an enthusiastic greeting, sports are definitely fickle. Ten years ago, few to none watched baseball - now that
the Sox won a couple times, everyone's a fan. Poor NHL is in the Stanley Cup Finals (not the first irrelevant games like the Red Sox) and can't even
get a regular channel to broadcast. 20 years ago it was basketball and hockey - our baseball and football teams sucked. Now it's flipped, so everyone jumps
on the bandwagon (not meant to disparage posters on this forum - I'm thinking big picture and local broadcasts).

Frosty - I feel badly about the hockey situation - BUT if Bruins come back big time, decks will clear for them in same way it has for Sox and Pats. It's
called pecking order...inherent in all species.
BTW - speaking of winnahs - Sox not in that category tonight against Yanks. ~ a popsicle smile reaps what it sows ~ |

True - but I'm a true Bruins fan - they have sucked for a long time, yet I watch almost every game each season - and hope.
Yeah, the Sox lost tonight (saw that game too), but it's way too early in the season to care (even if it were the hated Yankees). |

Great performance by Wang! Nice to not have to even tap into the bull pen. :D

Yeah - have to hand it to him - it was a stellar performance...and in the rain to boot.

I generally am gracious, Realist.
I'm giving Wang credit. In fact, before the relatively recent successes of the Sox, my complimentary posts or those giving credit to specific Sox members often resulted in a personal attack upon me and a diatribe about the Yankees. In fact, I seldom, if ever, make comments about baseball here. But Wang is *special*--and the conditions deplorable. I felt that, since you fans weren't bellying up to graciously give credit, I would. (When the tables are reversed, you run these threads off the board until the wee hours. ;) |

Did not mean to insinuate that you aren't a gracious person, thinkin! Just jerking your chain a bit in friendly rivalry fashion, is all.
Please consider making more comments about baseball on this thread - I, for one, would be very interested in your observations. Promise, no diatribes. ~ a popsicle smile reaps what it sows ~ |

Lordy .... too funny, jackhammering through concrete .... hopefully a fun and good ending for the Jimmy Fund ... but, criminal?
bwahahaha ..... "The first thought was, you know, it's never a good thing to be buried in cement when you're in New York," NY Yankees unearth buried Red Sox jersey from new stadium By KAREN MATTHEWS, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago NEW YORK (AP)-A construction worker's bid to curse the New York Yankees by planting a Boston Red Sox jersey in their new stadium was foiled Sunday when the home team removed the offending shirt from its burial spot. After locating the shirt in a service corridor behind what will be a restaurant in the new Yankee Stadium, construction workers jackhammered through the concrete Sunday and pulled it out. The team said it learned that a Sox-rooting construction worker had buried a shirt in the new Bronx stadium, which will open next year across the street from the current ballpark, from a report in the New York Post on Friday. Yankees President Randy Levine said team officials at first considered leaving the shirt where it was. "The first thought was, you know, it's never a good thing to be buried in cement when you're in New York," Levine said. "But then we decided, why reward somebody who had really bad motives and was trying to do a really bad thing?" On Saturday, construction workers who remembered the employee, Gino Castignoli, phoned in tips about the shirt's location. "We had anonymous people come tell us where it was, and we were able to find it," said Frank Gramarossa, a project executive with Turner Construction, the general contractor on the site. It took about five hours of drilling Saturday to locate the shirt under 2 feet of concrete, he said. On Sunday, Levine and Yankees CEO Lonn Trost watched as Gramarossa and foreman Rich Corrado finished the job and pulled the shirt from the rubble. In shreds from the jackhammers, the shirt still bore the letters "Red Sox" on the front. It was a David Ortiz jersey, No. 34. Trost said the Yankees had discussed possible criminal charges against Castignoli with the district attorney's office. "We will take appropriate action since fortunately we do know the name of the individual," he said. A woman who answered the phone at Castignoli's home in the Bronx on Sunday said he was not there. A spokesman for Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said Sunday he did not know whether any criminal charges might apply. Levine said the shirt would be cleaned up and sent to the Jimmy Fund, a charity affiliated with Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. "Hopefully the Jimmy Fund will auction it off and we'll take the act that was a very, very bad act and turn it into something beautiful," he said. |
