The monarchs failed to reach their Caribbean, Mexican and other southern destinations, a decade or so back, killed in frosts along the way, interrupting their travelogues. Many swarms died and the following years, only a few got back here, in the spring. But the returning numbers have started to increase again, a few here and there.

I saw a couple out there last weekend, but nothing like the swarms we used to see, in the 60's, 70's. It's still pretty cold, in the 40',50's for them to be already back.
