That's beautiful, Les. What is that?

The central image - 6 fold screen - is based on a large Quarry image 40 inches x 108 inches titled 'When I find you again it will be in Quarries.' I am
exploring the option of presenting a number of my images as folding screens. I should have some ready by end of May.
The forground is created in a landscape program titled 'Bryce,' I then took a photograph of horizon line looking toward Ipswich and merged it into the background. I should add that I am using a high-end 3-d program to generate the folding screens in 3-d. |

Bryce is a very cool tool! I had it on my computer at an agency I worked at. Loved it.
Good luck with the screen idea. That sounds very clever.

The Screen Idea is a great one, and I am sorry that you feel so sadly about a Tree.
But really, I feel children's education is a lot more important than the placement of a particular tree.. It's not like they are the ONLY trees around.. Like GoO said, there are plenty of others, and keep in mind that trees were cut down to build your house too, unless you live someplace on the Prairie.... I was sad too, when I drove by the house I grew up in, to find the great big willow tree in the back yard was cut down. All of the times I had climbed it, now no kids could. No Dad could build another Fort in the branches, and no more Orioles could build nests in it any more..... But then I remembered during storms, the creaking, how many branches fell off over the years, having to pick up after it so many times, and all of the little twigs... and how it towered over the house before it was cut.. It was certainly dangerous... when a branch fell and took out half of the Garage.. it was time |

I live underneath a giant Silver Maple which, much like your willow, if it goes will remove any trace of sadness :) I am not arguing against these trees coming down,I wasn't aware of the impact on the established play area, but know that it is for the best. |

When I saw the title of this thread, I had an entirely different topic in mind...

Back on point -- how idiotic is it to be putting modulars/trailers or whatever you want to call them on school in the middle of nowhere where they will have
scrounge kids from all over the city to fill the classes. What is the school committee smoking with the idea of spending probably $1M on that school when in 5
years it will have to be shut down?? From what I hear most families in that area have already bailed out to Rockport/Essex or St. Anns.

Actually I did in fact join today -- just learned of this board recently and decided to call out nitwits like yourself who think they actually know more than
they do.
Cite the facts and enlighten me on this topic and show us all that you actually know what you are talking about. |

"I just learned about this board"...bullshit. Too transparent.
I'm not rising to the bait, OldBig. Go away and do some research for yourself - about education K-12 education standards and practices, about the difference between a modular and a trailer, about why neighbourhood schools are better for kids' educational and social development than vast warehouse sites. And maybe about some of the posters here who've been around for more than two days. Then come back and offer more than bullshit supposition and harpy-like, trouble-making rumours about about North Gloucester and the families here....especially when those rumours are pathetically wrong. 'The middle of nowhere'....yup - that's intelligent. Beeman parent, are you? ALTERNATE RESPONSE: Then Welcome, OLDBIG3 - we love new people in here! What you should do, that many of us have already learned and would appreciate, before you post stuff that is inflammatory and incorrect is to possibly read up on the subject - do some research...it'll help you participate in a more meaningful way rather than just posting rubbish that might already have been discussed and dismissed; and the people in here who are actively involved in their communities and/or who have experience, involvement and/or training in the subject under discussion will be less likely to write you off as inconsequential. Looking forward to your next considered, thoughtful post!

Well, well Gang, it seems I have hit quite a nerve here. I have actually watched via cable tv every school committee meeting and city council meeting for the
past two years and do have knowledge of the facts. I admit I was baiting you to a point on the middle of nowhere and the modular/trailer quotes. I am fully
aware of the difference and in fact modulars are far superior classrooms to any of the existing falling apart ones. This is clearly the only alternative short
of building a brand new school so I guess we all have to live with the decisions to move forward and make the best of it. Further I have in fact done research
and it indicates that the North Gloucester census tract and birth rates along with the way the district boundries are layed out indicate that there will not be
enough children to attend Plum Cove in the years ahead. (Unless you plan to take it upon yourself to procreate a very fast pace). The facts are the facts and
as Bill Bellichick says "it is what it is".
And yes you are right, I did in fact know that such a board did exist but I never bothered looking for it until recently and have read many, many posts to get up to speed on what has been discussed already so please don't consider me under- informed on the issues and further I have a minor in education. So please don't preach me on education standards and practices. |
