Great drying day. |

Hung the laundry on the clothesline, in a SW breeze, now "driza bone,"
folded and ready to put away.

Call me crazy, but I LOVE to hang my laundry out. It's relaxing. Nothing modern about it. The Globe magazine had an article a while back about hanging
laundry. A woman was house hunting and she would not buy if the neighborhood association had rules against hanging laundry outside. Let's hope there's
many more days like this ahead.

I love it too, especially fresh, crisp, air dried bed sheets.

Many years ago, my parents built a home where there was an "Association" that dictated no use of clotheslines.
My mother hid hers where it couldn't be seen.

I was digging through one of the books that has countless photos of Cape Ann back in the late 19th century, where you can see into the backyards of everyone in
Annisquam from one vantage point. Aside from the dirt roads, men in dinner jackets doing chores, and livestock, one thing you'll see is all of the
clotheslines. No one hangs their clothes out anymore. We depend on electricity for everything. Sometimes I wish we'd lose our power for a week, just to let
the whippersnappers know what life was like when I was a kid. (You know, churning butter, darning socks, flying kites for entertainment,...) They may even
discover reading!

I thought it was PERFECT yesterday!! and today is looking very nice as well!
I don't have a clothesline here.. Between the bugs, the animals, and me not wanting to have to get chewed by Black Flies in the Summers, & me being the wimp during the winters when it's below zero, and not wanting to freeze my ass off.... I just don't have one... |

I was just looking at the forecast. Hopefully, we'll get tons of rain Monday into Tuesday-we need it bad. |

Per order of the mayor, The woods are closed and most of Dogtown, too, until we get some decent rain, to prevent forest fires. This early Sat am, it's
still cold out, and sunny. Next week we may get some decent rain.

WER: your 4/24 post 8:50 am "men in dinner jackets doing chores?" That doesn't sound like Squam, even back in the late 19th century!
What were they doing, shovelling snow, mucking out stalls, certainly not other
more basic bucket duties...from the top of Squam....

What a wonderful weekend for hanging out wash! I washed several quilts, duvet covers and blankets and then hung them out back to get that wonderful, fresh-air
fragrance. Glad I did because it seems our little taste of summer is over for a bit..........
True art is moral: it seeks to edify life, not to debase it, to hold off, at least
for a little while, the twilight of the gods and of us.

Hmm, our high school sailors all have dry suits but their coaches do not. I may claim sore back this afternoon. Actually my back is sore and I can hardly get
around. That spell of nice weather tricked me into too much rowing and boat launching.
