The smells & sounds of a summer night. |

As I take the dog out to do her buisness I'm struck of the smells and sounds of Gloucester at night that signal that summer is approaching. Wafting through
a mild breeze,67 degrees @ 11:56 PM Gorton's batter. I listen as I hear the distant rumble of the train's diesel engine...then fades away. Next the
droan of a far away 18 wheeler reefer only to be washed out by the sirens of a rescue squad and or fire engine and or police cruiser. Gone are the days of the
de-hy,no more roggy pogies.Boy... I miss that. It doesn't seem the same with out that strong pungent aroma surrounding our everyday lives. The Gortons
batter just doesn't cut it. What's that I smell now......OH NO ! I just discovered I stepped onto my dog's buisness! This stinks!!!

Get up to Lanesville. We drove up there last night just to get away from the orange evening sky of Gloucester.

I wish that they would bring the horn back. It also went off when fire alarm boxes were pulled and when there was no school. |

I've been working late the last few evenings and it is so wonderful to have the windows open and listen to the birds and the peepers. I can hear boats in
the harbor and the trains coming and going. There are few sounds I love more than leaves rustling in a night breeze and a train in the distance.

for a little while, the twilight of the gods and of us.

I'm sitting here with all my windows wide open, gentle breezes floating my curtains out into the room, followed by the unmistakeable smell of spring ...
When I look outside, I see the beginnings of all those glorious shades of green that the new buds bring, and I'm excited about (believe it or not) going to the cemetery and giving the grass its first cut of the season. Winter has been washed from our souls ... |

Dun ... I haven't heard the expression "roggie poggies" in years! It was oh-so-accurate, though, wasn't it!

You know...when I wrote the thread last night I had that thought of the fire horn @ the Electric Company off Rogers St. It would also go off @ noon every day
and @ 9:00 PM which would signal curfew time for us youngsters! Another summer sound of the past....."order 44 is ready".....the Bobs Clam Shack
P.A.!

The fire horn went off at noon in the town I grew up in. I forgot all about that.

That was a very fast Spring! I was working all day with the windows open and suddenly realized it is freezing in here! Shut all the windows.........
Maybe next week....
