I got one there too. A Giarelli 2 seater. The new ones are so much quieter. Richard Rosenfeld and Ron Garry tool around on theirs all over town, but with gas prices where they are I'm surprised that there aren't many more of them on the streets. |

I haven't seen the ones at Tally's yet but they carry 2 and 4 strokes at Try Angle. Does anyone know what brand mopeds they are selling at Tally's? |

Thats it. A Giarelli! They were selling Puchs and Giarelli. The Giarelli had a bigger seat. I would tie my work clothes to the seat. I had it for a couple of
years til it got stolen. Im checking the new ones out. I had fun tooling around on my old one.

It looks like the pictures are showing motor scooters. They've just about taken over what used to be the small motorcycle lines, anywhere from about 50cc
to 250cc. Mo-peds are really a motorized bycicle...the engine has enough power for flat-terrain cruising but you had sort of an early hybrid there. You had
to pedal it on hills. My brother had a Yamahog 350 back in 1981. I recall we were constantly changing spark plugs as it fouled easily and was a two stroke.
My old Hondas never had that problem. For around town cruising I wouldn't go with anything less than 50cc if you don't want to be the power assist.
I'd say four strokes were better for stop-and-go type situations, two strokes are really made to rev, and don't to best at lower rpm's. But it
could be technology has improved...My Stihl power equipment starts every year.

FWIW on the manufacturers website calls them mopeds-
http://www.peaceindustrygroup.com/product.asp?anclassid=66 Don't know if they call it the wrong thing or it gets lost in the English translation. |

for what it is worth, a moped with pedals that work in Holland is called a "bromfiets". A "fiets" is a bicycle and the "brom" is
the noise :

My father got a Servi Cycle when he came home after the war. He also got a real motorcycle at an auction in Lynn. He bought an Indian from the PD there. I wish
I had the pictures of those bike with the old man on them. They are somewhere.

Right you are, Capt. Joe. The pictures describe them under the category Moped...but when I checked the "About Us" link, it described the
company's product as a Motor Scooter. The link has the fractured English that used to be so common with Asian-manufactured products. Away back when I
started riding, my '65 Honda S-90 went for $403. I recollect their biggest motorcycle, a 305cc, went for $623. They still have some of those ancients
hanging from cables up at the motorcycle place in Beverly. A few years back, I was crazy enough to entertain thoughts of buying a scooter for trips to
Cumberland Farms, the hardware store, etc, etc. Checked all the Japanese sites and saw prices starting at about 3 grand, for similar vehicles. That sobered me
up. Looks like the Chinamen are filling every niche market now. They must be driving Vespa and Lambretta nuts. Gotta admit that trail bike TPGS-824 style
looked appealing...and he, he, the yellow TPGS-825 looks just right for any Hop-Sings that want a poor man's Electra-Glide.
