No guardrails either Backshore!
Oak, can you narrow down the area of your inn on this map? Sounds like it might be around Castlemaine? I'll try to find it.

It's a good 40 yrs ago, but I remember the hotel being in a town center, rather than the beautiful pastoral setting shown. You are so kind to provide such
a sumptuous link. And only 8 doable hrs away from Logan., "across the sea to Ireland."

Oak, it's only a 5 hour flight. An easy long-weekend getaway.

Let's go, oak. My sister lives in a little town outside of Kinsale where there is a great pub. We'll just turn up on her doorstep. She'll be
thrilled.

Gyps, there are great fly/drive deals. One advantage is that the flights from Boston depart in the evening and arrive early the next morning (Aer Lingus 7 p.m.
dep. - 6 a.m. arr.) giving you a full first day. Just hop in your rental car and you're on your way!
Just remember to stay left. |

Let's go, Dewey! Let's grab Ellie and hit the ol' Eire...
To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

We could rendezvous with Oak and Gyps in Kinsale.
Now THAT would be a trip! |

What are the going rates for those tix, Dew? |
|||
dewey77 |
|||
|
Don't know - I don't follow the rates anymore, but the airlines occasionally have sales that could get you a rt tix for $298 plus tax if you travel
prior to peak season. In season the rate jumps way up, then drops again in the Fall.

Here you go Ellie, Aer Lingus Boston to Shannon in May $269....not bad! http://www.aerlingus.com/cgi-bin/obel01im1/bookonline/index.jsp?campid=aer_lingus_gus&se=ppc ahh! what a tease they are showing one way prices first! Oak, sorry I couldn't find the hotel you described. I'm stumped. If it was downtown Killarney, the only one I found with tea served in a Garden side room is the Malton. It would have been called the Great Southern Killarney when you were there with your family. It's covered with ivy but looks stone not wood, so I doubt this si the one. http://www.themalton.com/

RE: Rural pubs in Ireland closing | ||

Let's go.
But nowadays, with new airport security regs., you have
to have 2 valid ID's to clear the US airports, and be allowed to board the plane, your passport and your recently updated driving license, acc to new
regs.and with photo. Was on tv this am. Ch 5, I think. I'm game for May. Could be even warmer than here, in Ireland's temperate climate, in the
50's, 60's, rather than these darned repeating brrrr 40's.

I've got my passport, my driver's license, my BC student ID, my library cards (Sawyer Free and Boston), and my Stop and Shop card --- what else do I
need?

I've done that all my life, dewey, which accounts for why I have to be a tad more sensible now..... Besides, I've got a lot of irons in the fire right
now and I LOVE some of the stuff I am doing... makes moderation somewhat easier.

Just keep singing the song, Gyps. "If you ever go across the sea to Ireland, then maybe at the closing of each day, you will sit and watch the sun set
over Claddaugh, and watch the sun go down in Galway Bay.

Finally remembered a great quote from the last time I was in Ireland with my birth family. When we landed, in a teeming rainstorm, my mother asked a local
official, "Does it always rain like this?"
"Ah," said he,"The rain,.. 'Tis just like the people. Ya can't trust it a bit." |
