Plum Cove School Tree Massacre |
Lead | |
|
I hate the City Of Gloucester even more now after seeing the back of Plum Cove School today. I was wondering if Les got any pictures. The school committee
should think twice about how much it puts into expanding Plum Cove. Lanesville could still form it's own town, and damage like this could speed that up.

The deforestation behind Plum Cove School has been discussed at length on an earlier thread. NO ONE, well maybe 1 or 2, support it. In fact, the city was
strongly chastised, on this board, for allowing it to take place.

me, I don't lead.

I'm sure Jo Jo would have lots more babies to add to her collection if she went up there with all of the oaks that went down.

I was looking from the other side of the school. If you note the pile of debris and drill rigs on the other side of the fence.

Here is a view from the side SCA was looking at:
Note: The really big oak turns out to have been ant riddled, hollow and ready for a big wind to come down. There is still the blasting to come... |

imagine the number of trees that will need to be cut when Lanesville has to build its own middle/highschool. Timber!

Drop in the bucket! Back in the 1800's you would be hard pressed to find a tree taller than 20'! Did you know that Gloucester has been awarded
"Tree City USA" for over 15 years! Did you know that Gloucester is ranked 3rd in the USA for the most trees per sq. mile in cities with a population
between 25,000 - 45,000 ! We follow behind McMinnville,OR. and Walla Walla, WA.

Dun - to boot, the school committee has offered to plant two trees for every one cut down.

Hey Dun
Didya know that in the late 1600s all trees were stripped from a high tide mark of 686 feet for the King's Navy? |

Based on Gloucester's area, the Tree City USA designation doesn't surprise me. What I don't see is the acreage of trees in protected areas vs.
trees in residential or citified areas. Anyone else notice how many trees are being cut down lately around Cape Ann? My phone book rep just told me the only
big increases in local phone book ad spending is among arborists and tree cutters. Why would that be?

hmm
maybe they are planting bonsai :( also maybe this is why our water bills are the tops - all the water is feeding Tree City USA. |

Those trees won't grow back in 5 years when the Plum Cove School is shut down due to lack of enrollment. Perhaps this can be the site of the Town of
Lanesville's town hall, police station and DPW?
