New addition to the home today - large piece of yellow-ish paper surrounding Mama as she sits. Hmmm...wonder what will become of it. Waiting for a stuffed
animal or old sneaker to appear...

hmmmm......that yellow stuff...... | ||
Strange looking stuff.....piece of a yellow egg crate? Some sort of rope or twine? Colorful, isn't it? A couple of years ago, there was what seemed to be a Teva sandal in the nest.
Funky decor.
And there's Papa in "the spot". Am dying to know what in hell the attraction is there. |

Absolutely correct - and I think Jim is simply warning of the very real potential for a broken heart on the part of the humans watching and waiting. As he said, these stories don't always end well. |

I am hoping everything works out for them.
It's a tough job being a parent in this dog eat dog world. |

I'm sure you're right, ck. As I've watched them for a couple of years, it seems that if 2 fledge out of 3-4 eggs, that's damned good.
Speaking for myself, if you don't get a broken heart once in awhile, you probably don't fully appreciate the wonders of nature. :-) |

You can say that again, peewee!

Changing of the guard just now.....that yellow thing looks like a plastic bag? |

It does sorta look like a bag now, but I thought it looked string/rope like when she brought it home, it seemed to be a piece of twine.

Perhaps a strip of a yellow highway trash bag ??? Definitely plastic, I think...

Hoping for a minimum of one fledgling - any more will be an added delight!

Mama surrounded by "that yellow" - perhaps plastic and generating some heat from sun?

I think that's been the case. They do seem to include plastic fairly often in the nest. Such smarties!

Maybe I'm missing your drift here, Jim, but is there something inherently wrong with becoming "attached" or caring about watching nature up close and personal? My sense is that some "attachment" is what really breeds understanding, education, and respect for nature, no?- EvSometimes people think their dogs and cats are part of nature and then transfer their expectations they develop from those interactions to what they expect to see in nature. Dogs and cats are not part of nature and the lives of animals in nature are almost never as successful as the lives of pets. Yes, people do gain a respect for nature from observing. But some folks come away disappointed from such an experience and don't come back. Forewarned is forearmed, I guess. The average clutch size (number of eggs) for Osprey a little less than three. The average number of fledglings (young that get to fly) per nest is less than one. By all means, watch what happens and enjoy the show.....just don't expect something as cute as kittens with theirs "arms" around each other. |

No expectations, Jim...but thanks for the forewarning. Feel fortunate to be able to experience, somewhat, the "process", so to speak. Good point
about "transferring expectations".

Thanks, Jim. I hear ya. No such expectations here. I've enjoyed watching the osprey cams for a few years now, so I know the realities. Hardly cute little
kittens with their arms around each other! But they are a bit endearing nonetheless. Bwahahahahahaaa.

Hey Eve, had a goose egg in a draw next to my bed and it piped.
Trying my best to father it , I helped it out of it's shell. It died and I was devistated. Life can be a bitch @ times. But , still worth watching and learning. Keep them pix posting, I rely on them for tracking the osprays .Thanks |
