Willard. Thanks for the support. They will never get it. Can't intellectually get it, actually. It just shoes how many people failed economics in school.
It does not add up. Add people, add services, add people not contributing to providing services and it all equasl up to over-funded services.
Recipe for Failure. And to whoever asked me to get a second job to get my kids out of these schools. Thanks for the advice. I have a second job. And eventually, we hope to get them into something better. Thanks for the well wishes. |

Global, You DO have a choice on the schools. It is called School Choice.
Do extensive research on the schools you can get physically get your kids to first. The school has to fit the child as well as the child fitting in the school. What is right for some might not be right for others. The Gloucester school system is fine for some parents/kids and others opt out to surrounding communities. It only costs you time/travel. If you put that much in to OUR system (like the PTO, etc.), then I would think you know in your gut where they belong. In or Out. |

Mother. YOU ARE FUCKING WRONG!!! Call ANY school from here to Beverly and check out the availability of school choice. IT IS NOT AN OPTION. All schools are
closed to school choice this year. Unless you want to send your kid to Gloucester. Note...all Gloucester schools open for choice.
Do any of you realize that when a family choices their kids, or goes private, the CITY loses MONEY!!! Why not fix what we have and try to RETAIN students.? |

You're entirely welcome, globalwarmer. You're incorrect in your assessment that the libtards will never "get it", though. It's not that they don't understand that taxing and regulating all the jobs out of this country is destructive - they know that. They also know that their crooked, bloated teachers unions are destroying our cities and schools. They also know that building a $60 trillion dollar unfunded liability to the welfare state is a sure fire road to national bankruptcy, and that their efforts to block all new domestic energy production over the last 40 years is what has us in the energy trouble we're in now. They are trying to bring down the good (albeit imperfect) system we have now so that they can replace it with the shitty Marxist system that's failed everywhere else that they've gotten away with trying it. It's not just stupidity that drives mooonbats, global, it's stupidity and malice. |

9/11 cost us $3,000,000,000,000.00 and 3,000 murdered American civilians (including women and children) on day one. You're like the idiotarian who laments paying his insurance policy because your house didn't burn down. Fifteen or twenty divisions in the neighborhood is a powerful incentive for the Islamofascist governments in the area to think twice about letting any similar attacks reach fruition, and our people along with Iraqis who are tired of the Islamofascists on both sides are cutting insurgents from both factions to shreds. Stationing fifteen or twenty divisions in Germany, Japan, and Korea for 60 years was expensive as well, but the alternative of allowing the Fascists and Communists to overrun the world would have been many times more costly. The same principal applies to Iraq (and by extension Persia, Saudi Arabia, Syria etc,) whether you like it or not. |

Global, Now settle down. Let me get this straight. Am I
FUCKING WRONG or am I WRONG or am I misinformed?
I DO absolutely realize that "School Choice" takes money away from our school system. Our system is broken and it is not a result of school-choice! It was broken well before that and the knuckle-heads (that's being nice) who run the system are not going to change it anytime soon. If choicing kids the hell out of here sends a loud and clear message then maybe the powers that be will actually ACT and fix what is broken...and there is much that is broken and it is not just $$$$! I was offering an option because you said you had "no choice". You stated that you give lots of time to our GPS system. If it is failing, and you see it first-hand, why risk your children's education on a broken system on the hopes that it will change - at your children's expense? As I stated, many people are happy/content with the GPS. If you are one that wants to hang in there then more power to you. I just thought you had had enough by the sound of your previous postings and was offering a solution as opposed to private school. I also know that if you want to get your child in to "School-Choice" you must apply/start making calls before December of the Year before you want to get in. You can not do it mid-year and you cannot do it on a whim at school year end. They have to make plans based on the size of the grades and money choicing in/out. Number of siblings can matter too. Different schools have different policies. Some have lotteries if there are too many wanting to get in. Sometimes, I hear, you don't even know until school is ready to start. I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with people sending a message and taking there children out. It is no different than moving out of the City for various reasons related to the mis-management of the City. People do what they have to do. I don't believe that every person/family that does either of the above WANTS to do it. They feel they no longer have a choice. Lastly, don't be fooled that there are openings in these other Cities and Towns "just because". Rockporters choice out. Manchester choices out. Hamilton-Wenham choices out.....they either go public or private and I have known many who are not happy with their own systems all for various reasons. Why do you think they have openings in the first place? Division class/or choice of athletics; better Music, Drama, & Art programs; larger systems, smaller systems that suit their children. Whatever you decide...you and your children will survive, OF THAT I AM SURE!
GOOD LUCK! |

Thanks Mother. Very informed post. The issue is that no schools are available for choice this year. And yes, we made the initial contact in November. Not to
say it may not change in late summer. It did last summer and they had about 10 new openings in Rockport. The problem is that when you have more than one...you
do not know which grade will be available. I am so hoping that the schools turn around here. There needs to be more parental involvement. And more parents in
the classes. There are few aids and typically only assigned when there is a spec ed kid in the class.
Trying to afford private or parochial is a tough one. But it would be worth the sacrifices. |
