soggy day with much construction going on this a.m.
And yes, Papa's in that damned spot! WHAT on earth attracts them to that:?

Guard duty, I'd guess. Maybe a rat hole or something.
I've seen the mates hang out in treetops within calling distance in the past. Might not be suitable tree available |

Thanks for that insight, Jim. Makes perfect sense. Early on, there also seemed to be a great egret which was spotted often nearby. I thought there might be a
territorial dispute, too. Is that plausible? I haven't seen the egret now for weeks, but that doesn't mean it's not around. Apparently, there are
several nesting in that area according to the Society folks.

Thanks Eve, I'll try to keep the dead ones out of my draws. LOL Keep the pix and breifing coming. The hell with IE and FF. Eve does best. If ya miss it,
Realist will catch it, good team! Need to number the eggs and take bets on wich one pips first.

Great idea, Muffy! Um...but she keeps moving them around. Crap. LOL

Other Osprey Web Cams | ||

1. Hilton Head, SC - wonderful, up close and personal photos of nesting Osprey - check out 2007 also. Cam updates every 5 seconds - but nest is empty. Read
2008 Osprey Webcam Log - appears all did not go well.
http://www.palmetto.coop/galleryosprey/spry/demos/gallery/index.html# 2. Sturgeon Lake, Pine County, Minnesota about 50 miles south of Duluth - streaming video of Osprey nest - excellent night vision. Good one. Internet Explorer only - no dial up. http://www.osprey-webcam.com/ 3. Blackwater Refuge, Cambridge, MD. Refreshes every 30 seconds - night vision. http://www.friendsofblackwater.org/camhtm.html |

holy crap! high water and wind seems to be driving current in this morning.....
Even seeing small waves coming in which I don't think I've seen very often (you can see the clear current movement on the stream.). And Papa's spot is looking like it's become waterfront property. Mama's been hunkered down. I, too, like those sites, Realist, especially the MN one, but I miss two things with most of the others: the view of their environment and the ability to take snapshots. |

here's an interesting site, too.....

Your "favorite osprey cam" is definitely the best, Ev. It was interesting for me to do the research...and to learn more about Ospreys. Certainly
beats reading about composition, odor, and color of turds!
|
|||
Evelyn |
|||

Yes, I, too, love checking out other sites and learning more about these wondrous creatures. As for the Turd 101 festivities, I'm not so sure that
isn't a wonderful metaphor for life around here and perhaps a deeper subject than a whole lot of others. At least it is what it is and doesn't hide
behind silly pretenses! And what do we know about osprey turds, now that you mention it? Bwahahahahahaaa!
|

Hmmm - now I'm wondering what Mama does when when she's sitting and gets the urge...does what comes naturally, I'd say. Perhaps we'd better not
go there...could go on for pages...

Anytime, Muffster.
Yeah, don't go there, Realist. LOL Or....hmmm.....maybe that's what Papa says to her???? Maybe that's why they keep adding layers? Could it be the glue? I can't think about it any more! Heheheheh |
|||
o Realist o |
|||
|
Betcha it's the glue. Friend who knows about Ospreys said the toxic stuff in fish from polluted waters is resulting in thinner egg shells, and that many
are being broken just from the Osprey sitting on them...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh! |

The big sticks are for opening a hole in the nest for discharge and drainage. Look out below.! Nuf said ! Too bad about the eggs in Minnesota was it. Nasty
crows, part of the cycle of life, maybe they were not fertile and the parent birds knew it along with the crows eh. Best ending I can CONURE up.

Three crows are my totem, black marauders. Sorry to say, crows play for keeps. Thin eggs can't compete.

Young parents of any genre often think of themselves first - in this case, leaving the eggs exposed for a long period of time during bad weather. Not a wise
decision, but they'll learn. Hopefully, many years of reproduction ahead for them.

Nature. It's a wonder, a mystery, not always a place where we can apply our standards or understanding, but it's probably wiser than we can ever be.
Missed that egg loss. Sad, but it is what it is, no? Black marauders, Brain? Well, maybe. But I suspect it's all the way it should be for some reason we're just not privvy to. Meanwhile, in Milford, things are drying out. |

sunny skies, tides in full of fish, Papa checks in and leaves again probably for sushi........
He's especially attentive this morning.....back and forth for checks, but not yet a changing of the guard. |
