I think Seymour wants to be Chief so he can have better transportation to meet his friend.

That may be, but if that's the case, why were they elected if there is no confidence in the union leadership? It's seems the attitude down there is
that it's much easier to be an arm chair quarterback.

Another thing. That money doesn't carry over into free cash. The money wil be used to close gaps in the budget. I still think its strange that they would
just willingly give back $25,000 just out of the goodness of their hearts.

union rejects giveback | ||
|
Turning down a deal negotiated by their leaders, the local firefighters union has overwhelmingly rejected a request to give the city $25,000 in training money
to help eliminate an overtime deficit
======================================================================= If the money is in the fire budget why can't they just transfer it from the training account to the overtime account or is that not allowed. If there is a surplus in one account is there any reason it can not be transfered to another account if it is not a violation of a contract.

the new operations policy as written by McKay under the orders of Kirk violates at least 3 collective bargaining agreement clauses, and by itself is retribution for the "no" vote by the union membership, which as you know is an unfair labor practice.

There would be no violation of a contract to transfer funds, but it would require a willingness from the Mayor to submit it to the Council and the Council to allow it. That's not the case in this situation. |

Dear GABBY |

NO. 1- Are the Police and asked to give back money that was allocated for training- and would they. It is apparant no matter whom sits in the Mayoral Throne they always seem to attack the Fire Department!! Aside from that I think that if our Political Leaders started using the monies which they are attended we would be on the way to recovery. If it was given for training to the Fire Department than Im sure a request was put in to the state for that monies, and should be used for training period!! McKay , should learn how to schedule better and then there would not be 5 or so Men out on shift- Should not be allowed and I cannot imagine it would be in their contract that vacations could coincide with others.. Heres a tip Chief , give your undermen a calender on Jan 1 and have them plan their vacs like alot of other jobs do- and no more than 2 should schedule out pershift....... Maybe if the GFD is understaffed than it would behoove the City to hire a couple more men , better to pay 2 reg. man hrs than all overtime hrs... Overtime has to stop!!!! The GFD and Police Department are bleeding the City Dry with overtime allowances in thier contracts.. |

"Beginning in September, he began closing one or two substations depending on the number of firefighters who appeared at roll call. The assigned count was 18 or 17. But with firefighters taking advantage of the discretionary absence clause - as many as five could be off - the department either used
overtime to bring in firefighters to work the shifts, or officials closed one or more stations."

Gabby, it is a proven fact that t is cheaper to pay OT to fill positions that to hire more people. While OT is a fixed cost, to pay for more positions includes
pension, health insurance etc... which justs increases year to year. WHy so anti OT? that's not what is bleeding this City . its people like you electing
the same bufoons to run it year after year after year.
This City has been mismanaged by the same people for 30 + years and look where it has gotten us. To blame the police and fire is just petty jealousy |
