As long as I don't have to hitchhike... To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

'i want it, i want it, i want it...but can't have it'...at least until that day i get on that magic bus and turn to ashes.
today is the 5th anniversary of my daughter's dad, and my husband's death. it was a day much like today. i was with him after life support was removed at the deaconness hospital. i was seven floors up and flower petals kept raining upward and sticking to the window of the sicu bay. today the apple petals are tight in the bud, so i'm waiting for that breeze. the daughter graduated last sunday, so i'm jonesing for the day she is fully on her feet emotionally and financially, and you know what?, that day is today. ...and soon, i will have a garden again, to plant and tend and rise early in the morning to visit and pull the weeds. |

I've always been tall and slim, most of my life. Something I'm trying to uproot is my disdain for fat people. Both my parents were same body type. Now,
when I see a fat person I feel immediate disdain because I think they are depriving someone else of a meal - or two. Weird, huh?

brainfix: sometimes it is not the amount of food that makes someone fat. sometimes it is the type of food they eat that makes them fat (metabolic issues).
sometimes it is a disease that makes them retain fluid and makes them fat. and sometimes, they are just fat because they don't move. and sometimes they are
fat because of menopause. and sometimes they are fat because they are full of paint and know no other way to soothe it. and sometimes folk are thin because
they don't feel a need to, or desire, or inability to have a right to, 'filling space'.

Thanks, elli. Those are key factors, just frustrated with my relative's inability to lose weight. It's been years of worry because of diabetes in the
family and heart disease. Major risk index.

Weight issues often run through the genetic line, with an occasional exception.
For instance, everyone in my family has to struggle to be thin, while Muffy, little Skinny Man that he is, has always been slender. Although he looks most like my Dad, we assume him to be the Milkman's child!
Making judgments about anyone based on the physical is a mistake because there are a dozen factors that could enter into it besides heredity. Low-income people often don't have the money to eat well. Unfortunately, in this country, healthy food costs more than flour-, sugar- and fat-laden foods do. Physical disabilities that aren't immediately evident can cause obesity, too, and our fast-food culture and exit from the family dinner table contribute, as well, etc. That doesn't, however, make any of these people less "nice," or "smart," or "worthy" of knowing. People who have been "tall and slim" their entire lives simply can't relate to the never-ending battle. |

Some of us can sis, not all light weights, but some understand the battle.Cushman was the guy----not the milk man!!
