Funny, when it's someone elses money , we try to tell them who to hire and how to spend it. When it's our money, we go for the best price.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

Not even close. We're a pretty stingy country that likes to pat itself on the back way too much. if Joe's figures are right, then the city stands to increase their $$ by $640,000 (as opposed to the 10k now paid for the land) which is still a good size
increase. so what if we give him a 150k break for 10 years or so. the bottom line is the tax base goes up, we are bringing in more than before and some people
will get jobs. people here are lazy and won't apply for the jobs we already have available which causes them to van in out of towners. I am pro develop and
can see few if any drawbacks to either this plan or the demoulas plan. we can't expect to balance this city's fu*ked up budget on Parks's back but
at least we could be heading in the right direction here. hell, even if the doomsday predictors are right and the land later sits vacant, it will still be
worth more than it is now and someone will probably buy it up and do something with it if it isn't a shopping center. (industrial or other)

Oh brother! Someone post a link to it if there is one. If its in the paper, its intent is to be public.

The problem is that squig knows GoO and congratulated him on his ink in the Globe. But since I don't know who GoO is, I wouldn't connect the article
to his CAO persona, which makes it not quite public. Squig, or someone else posting the article would thus out GoO and he might not desire that...

Globalwhiner already outed GoO in an earlier thread, and was roundly chastised by CAW for doing so.

[ignoring the global politics]
the point is the tax break is UNDESERVED. He has done nothing but make money, and he does not deserve money that will come out of our pockets to do it. He will build it the way he wants no matter what. Why not just give me the money? I have spent 18 years putting money in the Gloucester economy....... |

I do hear, however, that the Herald has a god sports section -- I'll grant them that.

"the point is the tax break is UNDESERVED. He has done nothing but make money,"
The whole point of being a business person is to make money. "he does not deserve money that will come out of our pockets to do it." I don't understand your comment, how much of your money is being spent by Mr Parks? How is it coming out of your pockets? |
