Too bad, but Mayor Kirk didn't make a convincing case of our need and unless she can learn how to present how we are hurting, in personal terms, she is just wasting her breath.

Mayor Kirk on WGBH tonight |
Lead | |
|
Mayor Kirk, along with Geoffrey Beckwith of the Mass. Municipal Assoc. were Emily Rooney's first guests on WGBH's GREATER BOSTON program tonight. The
subject was Gloucester's dire financial condition, its causes and ways to resolve the "crisis".
Too bad, but Mayor Kirk didn't make a convincing case of our need and unless she can learn how to present how we are hurting, in personal terms, she is just wasting her breath. |

In what way was she not convincing? I missed it so I am interested.

Now that Brain has fixed my computer, I can watch.
I thought the mayor did a pretty decent job but was amazed that the moderator did not understand how Prop 2 1/2 works. Damon |

Pretty poor story, really. Mayor Kirk needs some more on-camera experience under her belt, and must develop more focused responses for that media environment.
A good show normally.

My only comment would be , it's only five months into her term. She is trying her best. In reflection to Leaders of the past she has faced more obstacles
than they ever had . She is also dealing with the results of good old boy tactics, and she is trying to mend the wounds of Gloucester's past. Why don't
we give her a chance before we burn her at the stake

Don't misinterpret my straightforward response to the program for non-support, Huck. I wanted it to be sharper and more in-depth, I love the show and their
investigative team. Emily R. is great.
I support the Mayor almost wholeheartedly. She'll make mistakes, but her ultimate goals and her apparent pragmatism are the right direction to be going in, if we're not all going to be pissing and moaning the same chorus of woes five years from now. I still say she could do with some media training....marketing is everything. |

Would you say that she was perhaps....a bore? | ||
Pretty poor story, really. Mayor Kirk needs some more on-camera experience under her belt, and must develop more focused responses for that media environment. A good show normally. - Gang of One...and you are an editor, producer, director, theater arts expert, technical communications, journalism expert? Your opinion from the "media" set? Are we not the very cultured individual? "A good show normally." THAT, coming from YOU speaks volumes. You are in fact, a gang of ONE and now I can see why. Reality is when you, sorry HUCK, realize that she is not Mayor material, 5 months or no. You can run with a skeleton crew, Damon ,but to what extent? No managers and all clerks or "paid consultants" - how does that equate to saved money? How much is the Auditor "consultant" drawing? Who knows more about the City than those managers that are now leaving in droves? Please don't tell me they ALL are bad and they ALL are in the GOBN. You don't have to like certain individuals to accept that they might just have something to offer that is worth more than a lower starting salary. It's called MUNICIPAL experience. She will be done and gone before she even catches a clue about the way the City works or should I say CAN work. Rumor is that there is perhaps (the new Personnel Director) and maybe the City Assessor that is staying. The rest retiring or looking....and soon by summer and before years end. THAT is just at City Hall. BIG trouble ahead. You shall see. Everyone thinks that "new blood" is always good, but sometimes it's ego driven foolishness that gets you in bigger trouble than you can handle. I can't wait until she literally cries the first time in public. She already has when on the School Committee. It has nothing to do with liking or not liking her. It has to do with being fit for the job....and NO, Gang I will not say from where I gain my expertise. Perhaps I have an alter ego? I thought she would bring possible good change but now I see the real truth long before any of you (supporters) of her will. Something stinks in Fishtown.

Well, well, Mother...you certainly don't mince words! (And, that is, in this case, a compliment...don't misunderstand me and fly off on a needless
tangent!) You and I are actually on the same wave length here - hard to believe, I know...
It was the complete lack of municipal experience and knowledge of the municipal ambiance that concerned me about the Kaptain's election. I know, from reading your posts, that you have the familiarity, and you know that I have the familiarity. So be it. Should be a popper of a two years! Unfortunately, it's the citizens of Glosta who will pay the piper in the long run. |

Are these the same people with all the municipal experience that got us here in the first place? Perhaps City Hall is the place that needs the shake up

No - Lucky One. Please don't generalize beyond what I have actually said. Noting Kirk's lack of municipal experience - not drawing any comparisons or
looking at past "happenings."

Well we could have elected Jeff Worthley and by now with all the moorings he would have sold the city would be able to straighten itself out!

This thread is about Carolyn Kirk making the City's case on WGBH, not moorings. However, the last I checked, there are currently over 700 people who are
waiting to give the City of Gloucester money to lease the the next available mooring.

Insider - you should know by now that the diversionary tactics used by some posters on this board usually involve a personal attack that have nothing to do
with the topic at hand - kinda like kindergarten. Ignore and keep trekking...

The gang of good ole's who have been collecting and neglecting for years have someone on board who understands process, and demands
accountablity.Department managers who don't manage their budgets will not be welcome. She understands more about the issues in the City of Gloucester
than the Bell Administration ever did. Kirk has made many important moves already. The books are being balanced by CPA's , who will then move on to
capital projects. These two items alone merit her re-election.
