I am going to have 3 boxes out back, off the deck, one in front of my kitchen window, one off of the front deck, and 2 on each side of the front steps

I didn't plant new bulbs last fall because just because.... I don't know why.... looking for an excuse..... but don't have a good one. Time got
away from me I guess so naturally our show this spring was paltry. I'm going to dig out some last year shots to inspire me while I'm procrastinating.
I'll post some.

I didn't plant new bulbs either, but my house was under construction, and I was riding the rails of the Crazy Train..
I've got some Lavender going, and some Sweet Peas too.. Hopefully, those will stick.. I can never seem to keep either one Just do what I do, and go to a Garden Store and buy what you wanted to put in last fall... that way, it's all grown, and ready to go! |

Footnote to the Beacon Hill Garden Tour I had difficulty finding the author of the novel , "Joy St." an authentic Beacon Hill St. Finally found it,
on amazon.com, and am surpised that it was Frances Parkinson Keyes, set in Boston, spanning the years, 1936-1946, about the fictional life of Emily Thacher
Field, born into the Forbes family, "one of the bluest of the blue blood Boston families " The heroine, "Emily," broke all the staid
unwritten Beacon Hill rules, inviting socially unacceptable people to dinners, parties, lectures, academic settings, living quarters.
(I'd thought "Joy St." had been written in the mid-1800's, by Louisa May Alcott, not a whole century later, which it WASN'T, although the 2 women authors, Alcott and Keyes, had much in common, trying to break thru the barriers in place during their lives, for women authors, writers. The book story line touches on themes, also found in the Novel, later a Pulitzer Prize winning play, "The Late George Apley" by J.P. Marquand, describing political powers in Boston, dramatically unravelling, transferring, with the arrival of massive immigrant populations, from the late 1800's to mid !900's. George's story is set down off Beacon Hill, along Commonwealth Ave. Both interesting reads.)

I've never read that Oak. I will definitely bump Joy St. to the top of my list.
Thanks Zanny, needless to say that isn't what it looks like now since I didn't plant new bulbs last fall. The leftover tulips that did bloom have a few days of life left then it will be time to make a summer plan. |

well, wait a little bit, and go to the garden center and buy stuff!!
works well, each and every year for me!! I realized yesterday that one of my Rose Bushes was killed last fall, I am bummed, but- I'll just go get a new one, and hope for the best... I'll go pick that up, along with my Pink Lilac |

Speaking of lilacs, for some reason the lilacs aroud here are looking better and healthier than they have for years. I had a couple babies struggling along in
a bad spot where they don't get enough nourishment from the soil. I was planning to move them after they go by but now they are exploding with blooms. Go
figure....mild winter maybe?

I don't know about the Mild Winter Theory..
Mine, that I got 5 years ago, is exploding with blooms too!! and as you know, we had a heinous winter here, with that over 140 inches of snow... Unless, lilacs work well with either mild winters, or harsh ones |
