Does anyone know if there are plans to complete the painting of the rails that began before Memorial Day?

Good question.... | ||
|
The Stacey Boulevard railings I thought were being painted by inmates from a correctional facility which was allowed a/o orchestrated by Sheriff Cousins on
behalf of some political link here, I think? I thought I read that in the paper but I am not sure when or if they or others will complete the job. However, I
don't know my ass from my elbow lately and could have that mixed up with another story I read in the paper.
Sorry, Beach. You must check with those "in the know" and I am sure you will be informed shortly.

I was driving down the Boulevard this week and thinking how beautiful it could be...and it's not. It could be a focus point for the city - right now the
grass is in horrible condition and what little grass there is has not been cut. Trash, etc. etc. I'm certain you get the picture. Such potential, and it
appears the city doesn't care.

Ahh, a positive subject!
There is a group forming to lead the beautification of the Blvd. It is run by Joe Orlando. I asked about the rails on the downtown side of the Blvd and was told they need to be replaced. I hope they get some businesses to sponsor the landscaping and that way it would stay pristine. It is one beautiful place. |

It's John Orlando who is organizing the Boulevard Improvement Committee. The inmates were able to paint the railings and the light poles on the easterly
side. John was initially told they would be back but has since been told they can be scheduled again until September. The whole westerly side of the
Boulevard will be under construction starting in the fall and the whole seawall is being fixed and those railings will go. If you want to help the Boulevard
start to look like it did years ago, call John and help out - 978-283-2277.

I just hope they do something temporarily on the west side for the summer. It goes from on extreme to the other when you cross over the bridge!

Thanks for the information, Gloman & Skikitty!
Beachlover8, you are right and I understand how you feel. At least the work will be done and now you know that you can help if you are able. All good things take time - would you really want a rush job on a place so beautiful? I bet not if you are the "beachlover" your moniker implies.

maybe Joe could get local businesses and groups to "adopt a section" of the boulevard like the adopt a highway program...

means to encourage donations. I would certainly buy a flat of flowers or sod - and do all the "dirty" work - if I knew my efforts would live on in a
more beautiful boulevard.

Why was the grass where the CSO staging area was on the far east end by the Tavern not replaced in kind, as it was before? Also, I believe there is a sprinkler
system down there that could be turned on to green things up a bit.

Why doesn't one of the city's organizations paint the rails? The last time they were painted was by the US Navy as a token of gratitude. Where the fuck
are the local citizens on this. The AMVETs, THE ELKS, The Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts...

That's a positive approach... | ||

I am going to draft my letter now and need input to finish:
Dear AMVETS, ELKS and any and all local Boy/Girl Scout troops: The Gloucester Stacey Boulevard is in dire need of painting and repairs. We need help to complete this endeavor. The last time we received help from the US Navy as a token of gratitude which was greatly appreciated. We feel strongly that we need the help of local citizens. Where the FUCK ARE THEY AND WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU on this because we need the Boulevard rails painted?........

It sounds like there IS an organization forming around this? Maybe it just needs to publicize itself to the groups you mention more.... A lot of times the
problem isn't finding people willing to help, it's willing people finding the ways in which they can help.

I contacted John Orlando. The next meeting of the Boulevard Improvement Committee is on June 18th at 7:00 PM at the Harborview Inn at 71 Western Avenue.

Hey Night, it could be worse. Here they call the police on windmills and church bells.
