A guest staying with us was at a local beach and noticed sharp broken glass on the beach (must have been around the rocks). He decided to pick up the pieces so that no one would get cut (he had a six year old and four year old with him). He made a pile of the glass while he was collecting it and a little girl came along and started picking up the glass and throwing it around. Of course he doesn't want her to get cut, or spread the broken glass around so he tells her to stop that. She doesn't, so he gently lifts her up to move her from the pile of glass. Her mother comes over (none too pleased) and starts yelling at him. He tries to explain to situation, and the husband comes over (beer in hand) and lets him know that he can't speak to his wife that way. Pretty upsetting for my guest (who is a cardiologist here from Hawaii).
I understand that everyone is a bit paranoid about their kids being abducted (I lived in Boxford for 20 years and all the parents waited at the bus stop every morning--must be lots of unsavory folks there ;-) ), or that our children can do no wrong, but my guest was trying to do a good deed. I guess it's true, "no good deed goes unpunished".
So if someone picked up you kid , would you yell at them, even if that person was trying to protect them from harm?
