Dr. Sullivan is a really good guy, and he is a great principal. He strongly believes there is a place for everyone in his school, including pregnant teens and
the day care. He truly cares about the students. I hope he is not thrown under the bus for this, who knows what he really said to the media. You see everyday
how the media manipulates what people say in order to make a story. I heard rumors about this "pact" when the number of pregnant teens was first
announced, it is not something he made up on his own.

The point was that in the NY Times and various other media, they paint the picture that this increase in the pregnancy rates is a direct result of the decline of the fishing industry, the depressed economy happening in Gloucester, and the gridlock of a small city. In other words, children of families that fish. Statements like these "imply" that the kids are from fishing families. The fisherman's families in Gloucester are collectively INSULTED by that implication. Not a one of the pregnant kids are from a fishing family. It just cannot be blamed on that. Now, if all of them were daughters of fisherman that had lost their jobs b/c of the decline in the industry, that is a different story. Sorry Y..will try to be more clear. |

others whose husbands still fish are insulted. Thats all. Fishing, Fish, and Fisherman should have NO bearing on this story because it is not relevant. Not
paranoid. It is what is being said downtown over and over. Come on out of the deep woods, my friend.
And yes. I agree that Gloucester may have been an alien landing site. Its nuts. But Channel 4 anchor did say what a gorgeous City Hall we have. |
