But I haven't seen any car washes this year. Is anybody aware of why?
I have always respected Gorton's for their support of the community, and I have always thought the car washes to be a good thing.

What happened to the car washes in Gorton's parking lot? |

In previous years, I would have washed my car several times by now, in support of various civic organizations.
But I haven't seen any car washes this year. Is anybody aware of why? I have always respected Gorton's for their support of the community, and I have always thought the car washes to be a good thing. |

There was a car wash near Station Place 2 or 3 weeks ago. Maybe they've relocated.
To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

That reminds me. Last week when I was visiting Gloucester there was a very intense rainstorm. Afterward, there was what looked like soapsuds all over the
streets near Good Harbor Beach and Bass Ave. Did anybody else notice this? Know what it's from?

When I was last involved with an organization that held car washes at Gorton's (2 years ago), Gorton's had reduced the number to 6 per year, and it is
very difficult to get a date. With what the water and sewer rates are now, I wouldn't doubt they had to discontinue them. Too bad, it was a a great
fundraiser and something the kids had fun doing.

Yeah - except they're all fucking each other now, apparently...much more fun.

Yeah, those car washes were great for getting road dust off the vehicle. Unfortunately, the kids were to squeamish to tackle a bird tird, so they just washed
around that.

didja read the letter from cape pond ice in the GDT. They made a good point that to stay in business here they cannot compete with the much lower rates all
around.

I read that, Nightstalker, and thought he really did a great job. What a terrible situation! Somebody better
pay attention and fast.

NS - although rates are going up for everyone I believe industry pays less than the avg user. However, they use much mare and probably still have staggering
bills. I guess he'll have to change his name and take his ball elsewhere. BS this is a great location and the only thing is the profit margin is taking a
hit. Sorry but we all feel the crunch. I'm sick of businesses threatening. Shit or get off the pot!

Safety First. There was a boom crane there last weekend. They are replacing some large machinery there. They operate all week so it can only be done on
weekends. They are in shutdown mode this week. Contractor vehicles in and out. Not the environment for car washes right now.

Cape Pond Ice has been struggling to diversify in order to stay afloat for years and, since their primary
product is water, it effects them far more than most businesses. His points were well made.
Scott said at one point a couple years ago he was making more money on t-shirts than on ice... increased water rates are going to damage his business more than most.

Absolutely respect Scott and he is definitely a savvy businessman. But the decline of his business has more to do with the decline of the fishing industry than
anything else. I will read the letter before I comment any further.

I just read his letter (despite your obnoxious remark Gypsy - I know you can't resist when given an opening) and ultimately it is a fart in the breeze.

(despite your obnoxious remark Gypsy - I know you can't resist when given an opening)You thought that was "obnoxious"? Goodness, you are a dainty flower.
Cape Pond Ice is only one of many that are looking at other places to relocate to. Gloucester keeps talking about broadening the tax base then makes it impossible for businesses to do business here. Things are getting very tough for lots of folks and the smart business people are finding solutions that are not going to work in Gloucester's favor. I have at least two clients who are talking about moving their businesses, too... this is not good.

I concur but until the general public sees this as well as the CC we are all poised to lose. Do you have any opinion on my points? Another point is as a local full-paying business I would be very concerned about Sam Parks sweetheart deal. We bend over to make him profitable while good long time taxpayers are being squeezed - bad message. Bad management! |
