Cruise Ship Schedule

This is from Frank Eliot in case anyone has an interest in these ships:

July 8^th
The Grande Caribe is schedule to come into port from around 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. She will have up to 100 passengers. On the same day, the American Glory is scheduled to come in around 1:00 PM. Her departure time has not been determined. She carries around 50 passengers.

August 16
The Grande Caribe will be back in port arriving around 3:30 PM. She is scheduled to stay overnight and leave at noon the next day.

August 24^th
The Prince Albert II will be in from around 7:00 AM to around noon. She carries approximately 132 passengers.

October 11^th
The MS Fram will be back in again this year arriving around 7:00 AM and departing around 5:00 PM. She carries up to 300 passengers.

These are all subject to change at any time but as of today, that is the schedule. Please share this information with whoever may have an interest.

I noticed some people cleaning up a bit in the vacant eyesore lot next to the Building Center today. Some of those sumac bushes are becoming trees.

This schedule should be sent to the Mayor, who would hopefully make sure that the streets are swept, litter picked up, and barrels emptied before these visitors arrive.

How great would it be to close down Main Street on the night of the 16th. Have local artists set up down the middle of the street with their art work to sell.

Have the storefronts stay open and have hors' douvres..

Have a jazz band playing at the top of the hill in front of CVS facing down the street.

The people that come from the ship that is staying over in port that night would be able to spend some dough here without cars.

The artists, downtown merchants win. The locals get a beautiful night of entertainment.

Have trolley buses transport folk from Cruiseport to downtown instead of to Salem or Rockport.

When I read it I thought the exact same thing! Joe has some excellent ideas (a lot of people have excellent ideas to bring people in to Gloucester to spend money) but the bitching and complaining is hard to compete with.

Anyone here know the folks at SeArts? I just stopped by to see Sara Young but she was at a meeting for the sidewalk bazaar at the chamber.

I think if we get the SeArts folks, the Cape Ann Artisans to work with the Downtown Development Commision maybe thats the way to go?

If anyone knows em, give em a call and feel em out.

I served two terms on their board and am a member. They are pretty busy right now with the Rocky Neck Artists In Residence Program, the Nights on the Neck, and planning the New Arts Festival which is always held downtown. But they might have some good suggestions!

Great ideas! I wish there was some way to implement them!

I've been going to Aruba for 20+ years and whenever a cruise ship comes in, all the shops open up and the island caters to the cruise ship passengers.

This year highlights the well-honed craft of improvised music and dance performance for a choice few of Gloucester's unique historic landmarks.

The festival will take place on August 23 and 24, and for the second year, all performances are once again TOTALLY FREE of charge. By eliminating ticket sales, we must raise this through fundraising!

We are asking for donations to help raise funds to cover our production costs. GNAF has been awarded a generous $4,000 matching grant from the
Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (seARTS) through the
Massachusetts Cultural Council John and Abigail Adams Grant.
