Only grape ones here. It's one of those things, that since it's getting worse and they still can't pin down a source, the risk though perhaps small just doesn't warrant the very minimal pleasure I get from eating tomatoes that are far from the real thing anyhow. They're just not that good, IMO, that I enjoy them much to begin with. Now if it came down to the local REAL tomatoes, I'd be scarfin' em up with great gusto regardless. I'd say it's a personal preference, but I certainly wouldn't give them to little kids, elderly, or anyone with compromised immune systems. I heard this a.m. on the news that the latest is there's a question about salsas being safe as well. Think I'd make my own (which I normally do anyway) for a bit.

What I'm very cautious about is any that are served in restuarants. You don't know what the possibilities of cross contamination can be in something like a salad or as an ingredient. And anyone who thinks just asking where they come from is any genuine guarantee of safety is, IMO. woefully naive. I doubt that they know or if they do are given accurate or truthful information. We are, after all, talking about big business here and we know how honesty pervades all that they do. (cough) I was a tad appalled at seeing a week or so ago that Market Basket had a sign saying they were from Florida and therefore "safe' when indeed the two likely sources identified are Florida and 3 states in Mexico. So whenever any place tells you they're "safe", take it with a grain of salt.

You're not kidding, Gang. Gads. LWN is correct though....at one time they were much better. Now they either don't screen or don't allow drugs which have been sufficiently screened overseas by reputable researchers and hold up those seeking help.

About the best we can do on the veggies IMO is be as vigilant as we can be about knowing where things come from (that is if reliable and/or honest info is forthcoming from our sources and stores anyhow), wash everything particularly well, and avoid stuff where fresh veggies are sitting out practicing being petre dishes. It's certainly not going to shut me down from eating veggies.
