Y is right...we need to fund the CSO another way. A well analyzed debt exclusion is the way to go....hence this city will do anything but. I found the letter
deeply depressing.

People will always go for the tax cut... which ALWAYS means increases in fees. ALWAYS.
They get what they voted for. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.-Theodore Roosevelt, The Kansas City Star, May 7, 1918 |

After reading the letter and then Y's post, I find myself in the awkward position of totally agreeing with her. Who ultimately makes these decisions and
why is the City so reluctant to do a debt exclusion?

No matter how well the city presents a debt exclusion, with facts and figures and pretty charts to back it all up, people won't vote for it because they
will hear OVERRIDE or tax increase and panic. It is the best solution for sure, and would have my vote, but I just don't think it will happen...

People have been convinced by the right-wing noise machines that they can have a never-ending series of tax cuts and still have a full suite of services.
It's nonsense, of course, but people like to believe it... Well, nobody is talking about giving them any more. The issue is whether they get $XXX from the water and sewer rates or get $XXX from a tax override.
They're getting $XXX no matter what... mya's point is irrelevant and, likely wrong anyway. Believe it or not, I still think the idea was to get Essex residents to help pay by putting downtown street drains on the sewer bill. I screamed and yelled
from the very start, but as usual with no effect.

Does anyone know the water rates for Rockport, Essex, and Manchester? I'd love to see the contrast with Gloucester. Cape Pond Ice may have to relocate.

Offhand, no, Brain, but I pay approximately $200 a year for water in Rockport.
