I think this one is so complex on so many levels that all of us will do some changes of mind on it before it's all over. To me, the main thing is the kids---those in BF and in Gloucester---who need to have adults put a mature, serious, and thoughtful face on the challenges they're struggling with.

I think it's tragic that the parents of these children from Beverly Farms have not done a better job teaching their offspring empathy or good manners. I once heard an old guy in Dallas call people who came from his neighborhood and moved "uptown" as "trailer trash with money" I guess this applies to Beverly Farms or at least some of them.

The dancing pregnant girls are one thing, but the signs stepped over the line IMO.

When I got up this morning I had a look at the board, saw this thread and burst out laughing when I saw the video. It was so outrageous and pushed the envelope of good taste so much that I couldn't believe it. After reading the whole thread and thinking about it today, I realized my sense of the absurd needs some modification. There are societally-accepted standards of basic, decent human behavior and while the rules of the Horribles Parade explicitly allow spoofs and poking fun at local politics and events, the judges apparently didn't see the whole picture prior to the parade and the participants got away with it. On one level, it is of little consequence in the grand scheme of things, but on the other hand it can be very hurtful to certain people, offensive to parade viewers and provides more fodder for media madness. Boycotting local businesses and others who wrote checks to the parade commitee is wrong, IMO. How could they know how things would transpire?

The parade committe "deeply regrets any hurtful behaivor" pleaseeeee!! What were they thinking allowing that float or floats to leave the starting point??? Most of the people watching, according to the news were offended. What is on the agenda for next year?? a float mocking the special olympics? cancer ward?
