Something to look forward too: Greenhead death tide |
Lead | |
|
Greenhead death tide: Saturday August 2nd, BIG BUG KILLING TIDE of 11.2' height at 12:15 AM will drown all the bastards as they bed down
on the spartina grass. They are actually 'late' this year by about a week but they are not scheduled for execution until 8/2. About 3 weeks is about
right tho. Until then the beaches are inundated. Prepare accordingly.
When in doubt, twirl.

Just back from the beach and didn't see any either, but I suspect it was also the stiff breeze that was keeping them away. I worry when I start to see more
dragonflies around....usually a sure sign that plentiful munchies are about.

Full moon tide is not the killer, the female becomes so weak after 3 to 4 weeks that she stops breeding. Just seems to coincide with flood tides.

I was at the beach for an hour or so earlier this evening and there was ONE stubborn green head driving me crazy. There was a good breeze, but it didn't
stop that little bugger. The seagulls were flying low looking for some supper while the greenhead was dining on my leg.

Can we make a COUNTDOWN THREAD? I have two enormous welts on my calf from some bad-ass greenies.
I hate them. |

I've lived in W gloucester for almost 20 years. When I was first here they were almost unavoidable. I was fast and swift but I still was a victim. Now they
are looming just a bit and I can kill them with no problem. I guess all this development is kinda good.

Greenhead Exhibit at Cape Ann Museum | ||
|
The Cape Ann Museum has an extraordinary exhibit of paintings by Sam Holdsworth which are dedicated to the dreaded greenhead. They are reminiscent of the
wonderful surreal works of Edward Gorey and well worth a visit to the Museum. I think they will be on view through September.
Three of the memorable Cape Ann paintings are take-offs on a Fitz Henry Lane masterpiece; greenies at Woodmans; and, of course, greenheads visiting Fenway Park and the Green Monster. Well worth a visit!! |
