Took the day off from work today and went on a Whale Watch. The Captain and crew(Hurricane) were great, the weather and sea conditions perfect and the whales
active. Took some great pics and this video of a pod of whales getting a bit too close for comfort to a pleasure boat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njLO2VIUQls

Adore whatle watches 'cuz adore creatures of the sea. #2 boy and I went out a few years ago and came across a Blue Whale!! Stayed out an extra 2 hours, in
pouring rain. Blue Whales surface for air and then descend, staying down for approx. 1/2 hour. Gigantic mammal!

Anyone have any recommendations on which whale watches in town are better/best? Might be nice to bring the fam on one when they come to visit in a week. Are
bookings needed in advance for most? Or can you just call up that day and go?

We wanted to take Yankee Fleet but they were not running an early boat on Friday so we went with Cape Ann Whale Watch. My guess is that they are all pretty
much the same but the Hurricane 2 is a fast, comfortable ride. No reservation needed as I simply went down and purchased tickets about an hour before the trip.
I did have a negative experience with Seven Seas many years ago when they decided to head out despite 4-6 ft swells. Whole lotta puking going on that trip

Great video. All of Gloucester's whale watch companies are good but having been on 103 whale watches myself I would like to mention Captain Bill and
Son's. If you are lucky enough to have Mason Weinrich on board as a naturalist you are in for a treat. Mason is the director of the Whale Center of New
England and a highly respected scientist and the man when it comes to the humpback whales of Stellwagen Bank.
