You can talk "trash" about your own but that is your own business/relationship. You go outside of the your "in-group" and there begins trouble. You can't go Imus or Mel Gibson on other ethnic/cultural/religious group of people no matter who you are! I guess I just don't like the vernacular terms when used by people with malicious intent (i.e. White Supremacists, KKK, etc.) I don't use the term (being a "whitey" and all) but when comedians like Chris Rock or Bernie Mac use it I find it freaking funny! I didn't care to listen to "the Reverend" Jesse Jackson use it then, and I somehow don't think I want to now but that is because I just don't like the guy and never did. It's not a big deal to me but why did he use it in the first place and who exactly was offended? Did Dr. Martin Luther King ever use it? Does Colin Powell use the term? What about Condeleeza Rice? What about Denzel Washington? ...and then there are the two "gloved ones": O.J. Simpson Michael Jackson - but what "in-group" is he exactly? Would we be offended if he used "honky/whitey" or "nigger"? I am confused on that one. Sorry, but you have to decide which team your on Musical genius or no. 
...and on and on it goes....Halle Berry, etc. it gets very muddled as the race/gender/religions mix...so that is where the "vernacular" of certain in groups does not cut it.IMHO People get offended for their own reasons even though I personally agree with the social in-groups and why they/we use it but do think it gets too offensive when a person of Jackson's status (or lack there of in my eyes) uses it to serve what purpose? I just don't get why it was needed. Since they won't release all of it and I didn't actually "read" or "hear" it my opinion is of little consequence before you all skewer me!
