Think about where the Market Basket is in Danvers and Middleton - GloXing is likely to resemble those and they also other large stores in them.
Does Kohls have housewares? I've only ever been in there once.

Kohls is not coming here. They are in $ trouble, and they have one in Danvers.
MB belongs in Park/Kirk's new mall. It will sell the project to us...ease the blow......of what is to come..traffic nightmare and dangerous situation for all islanders/Rockporters. Now what for the 133 land... now opens that space up for the mayors industrial/office space movement. |

And what about those Gloucester families who want to buy organic produce, but can't afford to drive to those farm stands or don't have a car to drive there. As far as I can see, the farmer's market beats the pants off the produce found at Shaw's at Railroad Ave. I'm willing to put up with a little traffic for all the money I'll spend on gas going out of town to a supermarket or farm stand. |

I shop where it's the most economically feasible for me, whether it in town or not. It's nice to support locals but if is better for my wallet,
I'll go out of town.

If Market Basket wants to go there let them, the NIMBY's here are going to complain as usual but who really cares. These are some of the very same NIMBY's that have cost Gloucester home owners tens of millions of dollars over the last 30 or 40 years fighting the sewerage improvements and just about every land development. The big losers will be the West Gloucester home owners who will end up having to pay the full cost of the hook ups if Market Basket isn't built at the Drive-In site.
Don't blame me, I voted for Muffy.

It seems when you talk to the general public, they are in favor of most of these projects, but it seems, at least in the past, the administrations have always
listened to the obstructionists assholes that always seem to have unlimited resources for lawyers and the ability to stall or kill these projects.

Hey gang..you don't have to be nasty. This is opinions and sorry but I have one. I would like to see the MB in the mall.
The administrations may listen..but they do what they want in the end. |

I'm with you Flounda! I also have to say it...I DO feel badly for those that work at S&S and Shaw's. DeMoulas will blow them out of the water. We will gain jobs and we will also lose many. We have already been down the road of Brown's, Mal's, King's, and Ames. We will have more and more empty buildings with noone to fill them. I am not against DeMoulas at all regardless, and agree that it should have been at the Drive-In site but think Flounda is right about who gets heard round these here parts.... .

And we have ways of calculating our own economic feasibility. For example, I have to travel quite a bit, so I consider my home time priceless. Therefore, I will not drive out of my way/ travel out of town to save a few bucks (not worth my time nor ga$). |

They should just put the drive-in back into that spot.
Honestly, it would be the perfect thing attract people to Gloucester after a day of fun in the sun. Perfect Saturday= day at the beach, dinner downtown, movie at the drive-in. I'm thinking along the lines of Wellfleet.. Every drive-in theater I've ever been too has always been busy. And anything is better than Gloucester Cinema, to be sure! |

Gang..Don't you see this mall is done? People I know want the MB..anywhere. Why not put it in there.
The assisted living...nursing home care my Gawddd build the thing. But do we really need Sassy Chic? We do need a discount store ..we all miss Ames. But..I hate to see the local merchants put out of business because Sam wants too many stores. |

I'm with you, W...but when you write silly stuff like "MB belongs in Park/Kirk's new mall." or "the mayors industrial/office space
movement.", and then Chicken Little stuff like "traffic nightmare and dangerous situation for all islanders/Rockporters." - you lose
credibility. It's like schoolyard taunting.
You and I might find Sassy Chic a fucking nightmare of 'all-that-is-not-chic', but Cape Ann is made up of more tastes (more often lack of) and styles than we might both deem good. Some people think Target sucks...god alone knows why - but there we go. Budweiser vs. Ispwich Ale; sushi vs. chain pizza; Prius vs BMW; Fox vs. PBS; The Fort vs. Eastern Point; ballet vs hip-hop; John vs. Obama; Gordo vs. good acting...need I go on? Lovers of all these differences are well represented here, and any store looking at coming to G.X-ing is likely studying the demographics in pretty good detail to see if their audience/customers are here. |

My point is we need elderly housing ...not Sassy Chic. Asst living, nursing home...a hotel. If he did his homework...the sassy chic customer would be at the
mall anyway.
Give us the Market Basket...please. I am way to upset with the state of Gloucester now..your right. So I will say farewell! |

S & S and Shaw's must be shitting bricks over MB coming to Gloucester Crossing. With consumers fretting over every penny they spend, the 25% savings at
MB will spark a retail revolution in Gloucester. It's about time!

For, tomatoes were $3.49/lb at Marshall's today.

Oh, I'm not surprised by that at all Dewey. I never said they were cheaper, and I'm sure they are part of the Farmer's market downtown also.
All I meant was that I don't need to get caught up in all that traffic on Thrusday nights to go and buy overpriced produce.
