Anything new would be a boon at this point. When there is no change, things go stagnant. I do think we were all duped if no department store comes. I like MB
too, but like someone said, we already have 3 grocery stores. There is a nice plaza in Beverly where Shaws is. Clothing and specialty shops, with Shaws as the
anchor. Something like that and I think it would work nicely.

Ask Mac Bell if that is feasible, oak.

downtown will get better when the property owners lower their rents and make it feasible for people to run a small business there. of course that's hard to
do in the city of high prices for everything out of city hall. competition is good. you either work with it or get out of your business. prices at the downtown
stores are usually higher than other places and that's why people won't shop there. I agree that if I had a place downtown, I'd move it up to the
new crossing as there will be more people around. and I know that an assisted living is not a nursing home. I know people who are in assisted living elsewhere
and they would love to be back home in Gloucester. If they can afford it now, they can afford it here later. I still say that GC will be sucessful and will
help the overall tax base of the city eventually. not all at once. I like the idea of a reverse TIF so the city can benefit more upfront.

My, aren't we civil on the Lord's Day!
Tomorrow is a Monday I'd rather not face. At least it cooled off a bit. |

You are right about the rents, especially since the downtown merchants can't get a TIF!

Are TIFs only availiable for new businesses and developement? What are the parameters?

The way this will play out is MB will stay at the drive in ,they will go after parks for defalt on the loan. Marshell & staples will cancell we will have
cheap stores and the city will take it over like the one next to yhe building center. ss & shaws will close and we will have more vacent property.

I'm surprised you can't understand that my use of Wikipedia to answer your "non-question" was simply a device to set up my last sentence.
With your guns blazing at all times you seem to have lost the ability to grasp subtleties.

Oh, Lawdy....

everyone seems to think park is a fly by night developer who is going to come in take the $$ and run. his projects have all been sucessful and remain viable.
usually this city gets the bad end of the stick but in this case I don't think they will. the man has a reputation (good) and is not going to sully it
here. JMO

NS don't try and confuse the obstructionists, fear mongers, and NIMBY's with facts. They didn't get their way so now the will resort to anything.
BTW NS and don't take this personally because it never gets old...Will they be opening a new donut shop up there? |
