So I watched some of it at the end when The Who actually came on. I have to say that Pete Townsend is still incredible on that guitar and Roger Daltrey can unbelievably still hit his notes for the most part on key! I used to love them. My favorite album was "Who's Next". I thought they did great. For being Live, I was a bit scared that they would sound horrendous but I enjoyed it. I am now glad it is recorded so I can watch the entire tribute. They may be missing Keith Moon and John Enthwistle(sp?) but they got it going on for some older rockers IMHO! Yesterday was my birthday and despite the fact that 60 is coming faster than I am ready for (though still a couple birthdays away) I decided to dig out some favorite old music to celebrate the day. So, as I worked, instead of listening to the classical music I usually have on, I listened to The Who and Pink Floyd and the Stones and Janice and a couple of old Doors classics........... It was great! But I didn't even bother to record this show, based on their performance in the 9/11 concert in NYC. Roger just couldn't sing well enough any more. Maybe I'll check this out to see if he has reclaimed his skills. But there's nothing like listening to Tommy, Who's Next, and Quadrophenia back-to-back.

If I recall they played: "Teenage Wasteland", "Behind Blue Eyes", "Who Are You?", (forgot one or two in there, I think) and a new slower song written by Daltrey with electric acoustic guitar by Townsend. That may be the reason that he could sing decently? Townsend couldn't bring his voice up on backup vocals IMO but it didn't matter. I don't remember how bad/good they were at the 9/11 concert. I somehow think they have been practicing for this for a while and it was all for them: 2 hours of tribute. I don't think they wanted to screw it up!JMHO I always loved them anyway so I am biased. Mothership, you now owe me 2 hours of my life. Well, an hour and 15 minutes at least, since I FF'd through the commercials. Roger Daltrey cannot even visit the neighborhood where his high notes live any more. He's 64, so I'll cut him some slack. But in the words of Pete Townshend, "and I blame YOU!" Here's what Pete Townshend needs to do. 1) fire Roger Daltrey, 2) hire Eddie Vedder, 3) rock out. Pearl Jam absolutely smoked their two songs from Quadrophenia, and Eddie hit notes that Roger hasn't even heard 20 years. You might want to get your hearing checked.

When the Who actually came on I was embarrassed for them, Daltry sucked. Even tenecious D was better than Daltry.

Mr. Mean Jeans that was a low blow! Thong & you watched the whole thing and I didn't. I told you I only watched the original (sort of) Who part! I did not hear nor see the other bands play. I did say that Pete Townsend rocked on the guitar didn't I? I am guessing I am a bit older than you and maybe it is not so much my hearing as my "wanting to hear" the old Who? Suffice to say, you have a right to your opinion and I wouldn't fight it because it is not like I feel that strongly about it. I probably am off on it because I wanted them to be good more than maybe accepting that they ARE old and are not up to snuff and maybe I had a couple of beers - ya know how that can make anyone look good ? If and when I do watch the whole thing, I will really try to hear it this time around and before I do, I will throw on one of their CD's or two to refresh my memory before casting judgement. Besides, it's not my fault you continued to watch if you thought the first song or two stunk! You can/will get my apologies then, but your time buster - that's on you! Sorry if I mislead you. For some reason, guitar players don't lose it like singers do. But you said, "Roger Daltrey can unbelievably still hit his notes for the most part on key". And he simply couldn't. I knew he couldn't, and I knew better than to believe you. So I really just blame myself. I am 41, and The Who is my #2 all-time band (after The Beatles). If you like them as much as I do, watch "Amazing Journey", which is a 2-hour documentary on VH1. It's great.

A few years ago I listened to "Pet Sounds Live", a CD that Brian Wilson released a few years ago. He assembled a crack team of musicians to recreate the album in a concert setting. It all sounded fabulous... ...except for the lead vocals. Pet Sounds is a tour-de-force of hgih-register vocals and harmonies; it's just the best ever, boarded no erasies. But for some reason, Wilson didn't hire a vocalist, and instead sang himself. 40 years too late. So it happens to everybody; even Paravotti (my father assures me). I'm going to write a letter to Pete Townshend about the Eddie Vedder idea; I think there's some money to be made there.

Love The Who, passed the channel the other night and all the room felt bad for RD. No voice, no ,no feeling. Pete is still rocking but not enough to carry RD. I will remember them young and kick ass.
