Has anyone noticed? Comcast at it again! |

Comcast is diverting channels to digital only broadcasts. If you have a cable ready TV you must get a converter box.....for more money!!!
When will this end? Where is our cable committee? |

YES, I've noticed big time and have posted about this charade previously. F*cking monopoly. Same $ for fewer channels and more $ for same # channels.
Hasn't ended yet, I dare say...

I had to kill my TV, couldn't take it anymore. Cruel and unusual punishment.

To me it's a breach of contract! What package I signed up for I should get! Now they are re-packaging their line-ups forcing those who want their original
channels back for more money! Now that's down right robbery!!!!!

On the other hand, Comcast Internet is faster than ever.

I want to drop all TV channels... I have over 100 and they are all crap.. Once in a while
I will watch discovery or history as long as it is not" UFO Files".. I use broadband for everything else. Too bad the BB price goes up if it is not included with the TV channels.. Comcast is being sleazy and making huge profits I am sure.. |

FCC Mandate | ||
|
The FCC has mandated Digital Conversion of all cable companies by 2009 to make room in the spectrum for other uses. This is not to say that Comcast doesn't have a monopoly. I would like to call on the cable advisory board to petition Verizon to bring Fios over the bridge. When Fios competes with a local cable monopoly, both are forced to compete on price. Simple economics where the customer wins. |

Bobby Dinero wrote: This is incorrect. The FCC mandate applies only to broadcasters, who use radio frequencies over the air.
The FCC has no interest in how cable companies use the spectrum on private cables. Comcast is doing this because each old-school analog cable channel uses way too much bandwidth, while the newer digital channels use much less. Converting to digital means that Comcast can provide more channels to the customer, and that's what the pay TV competition is about these days. I am a DirecTV subscriber of more than 10 years. It's less expensive than Comcast, and it has more HD channels. If you can get a line-of-sight to their satellites, it's definitely worth checking out. |

We have HD in our living, Digital in one room and basic cable in another. All TV's are now missing Oxygen and MSNBC and I don't know what else, those
are just ones that members of my family watch. Did they move the channels or are they off the lineup?

MSNBC was gone by Friday, and still is, on the basic cable I have in the kitchen. So will the basic cable stations go one by one? |

when fios gets here (should we live long enough) comcast will be a ghost town. watch, next year it will be a few more channels until everyone has to go digital
for more $$$. If I could get DSL I'd drop comcast like a hot potato and go all verizon (direct tv for now) but I can't so to be cost effective I need
to keep both internet & tv with comcast. my loss.

I asked the guy, is it really here? Because I have been tracking this, and it isn't. He said yes, it will be coming very shortly, and I should sign up right away. He even gave me a FIOS pen. This was the 2007 Fiesta.Still no FIOS. |

Martin, what do you have for HD channels? I am curious to see the DirecTV offering versus Comcast, since I pretty much only watch the Comcast HD channels.

Here is a page that lists the HD channels on DirectV: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=3420007&_DARGS=/DTVAPP/layout/component/topNavSections.jsp.18_A&_DAV=-1&_dynSessConf=-8236351361878352588
It's pretty much all of the national HD channels. And what they don't have today, they will have shortly; they just launched another satellite, and it is scheduled to go into service in the next few months. What do you mean by "the Comcast HD channels"? |

Hmmmm... I haven't even turned on the tee vee since I got home... DirecTV... I'll have to go see if it's changed...

Confusing wording, sorry. I meant that I almost always watch HD channels now since the SD channels look terrible in comparison (I still watch a couple SD
channels that aren't offerend in HD, NECN comes to mind). And since I have Comcast, I meant the HD channels offered by Comcast.

I hope you are not all expecting FIOS miracles. We've had adelphia/comcast for years and last night was the first time in many years that we've had an
outage of any kind. My neighbor has DSL and it is less than reliable to say the least - and of course Verizon keeps saying that there is no problem out on the
street.

This is incorrect. (Partly.) Q: Where do you think the cable company gets the analog signals from? A: The air waves...Bobby Dinero wrote: The old-school analog cable channel carries the old school analog channel in analog. The rest of the channels are already sent digitally if you have a digital converter box. The cable companies today carry some of the same broadcast (RF or Radio Frequency) signals across the cable very much the same way that you would get it off air with an antenna. So, if you don't have a cable box and have only a cable-ready TV, you can receive only those channels distributed in analog. Like as in people with only 'basic' cable need no converter box for the basic or analog channels. The analog signal is going away. So whether you have a TV with or without cable, you will need a digital converter in order to receive any signal at all. Fact. DirecTV does this for you by default. Still, our CAC is asleep at the wheel. Do they even ever meet? Who are they? Does anyone know anything about Gloucester's Cable Advisory Committee? |
