If it weren't for the "nimbys" and people paying attention this place would look like Peabody. Is that what you want?

As I see it, Sam Park has failed to tell the truth about anything associated with Gloucester Crossing.
At first he said the project wouldn't work without a traffic light on the 128 extension. That wasn't true. Then he said he had signed up Kohls as an anchor tenant. That wasn't true. Next he said he had his financing in place before the project started. That wasn't true. The politicians who run Gloucester have laid out the red carpet for this guy and are falling all over themselves trying to kiss his rear end. At some point shouldn't somebody ask him when he is going to start telling the truth to the citizens of Gloucester? |

I almost forgot. Over a year ago I said that the Demoulas family were some of the hardest and toughest businesspeople around. People think they are in the food
business, they are not. Their main business is real estate and development. Now that they have bought a sweetheart deal, at taxpayers expense, in Gloucester
Crossing what are they planning for the old drive in site? My guess is there will be those lightning friendly "garden apartments" like Mariott has
built in Peabody. How attractive.

---------------------------------------------------------- Yes, they have the lowest tax rate on the north shore. |

They made a good faith effort to get into the drive-in and provide a valuable sewer upgrade and you obstructionists put up roadblocks at every single turn. Now it is the majority that loses out on a sewer upgrade, road improvements, and a good economic use for the eyesore that remains. They bought the land with he understanding it could be developed so now I hope they throw a high rise there. They can now take their time put in the minimum necessary to develop the land and make it as environmentally unfriendly as the law will allow because people like you block everything in this city. What could have been a win-win is now a loss. Jackasses! |

You are attacking the messanger not the message. Park has consistently lied to the people of Gloucester. Shouldn't real estate developers tell the truth,
at least some of the time? Apparently not and the amazing thing is nobody seems to care.

Yours was the message (about Demoulas and the original site), pgncv - you just changed the subject.

The results which rest squarely on you and your obstructionist friends. You guys give the so-called obstructionists more power than they actually have. It all comes back to the same problem and that is gross mismangement on the part of the city and it's boards. As well as the difficulty of developing some of these sites. But keep raging against ghosts it makes for spicy posting. The move would also spare DeMoulas the difficulties it would face in developing the Concord Street site, including working around wetlands on the property and having to pay for part of a sewer extension from Essex Avenue.

I have a hunch that Mr. Park is also looking at serious drainage and wetlands issues. It looks like much of his property drains under 128 through a culvert
into Babson reservoir. Other sections seem to lead down to the old Harbor Swamp on Maplewood Ave. This might cause interference with the CSO project which
would raise some serious hackles. Parts of his property are clearly wetlands. The whole area is likely part of the aquifer feeding Babson. I wish him the best
but wonder if all the environmental homework has been done. DeMoulas may wish they had stayed to fight it out on Concord St.
It is easy to call people obstructionists but the basic problem is that Cape Ann was only settled in a strip around the edges for good reasons. The interior is wetlands that feed water supplies and solid ledge. Damon |

And this is different than the industrial park right next door how? There is more pavement and buildings and probably as much traffic at least Monday - Friday.
There is no evidence of any detrimental impact to the environment other than its footprint. The school and homes in that area have more impact than this
project, should we tear them down?

Damon makes some good points. Thong uses inflammatory terms like "obstructionist" to polarize the issue and demonize those with differing views. I
would prefer the terms "thoughtful" or "sensible" to describe the people who are concerned about the environment and quality of life in
Gloucester.
Both Sam Park and the Demoulas clan have been duplicitous in their dealings with the people of Gloucester. They are the obstructionists because they are obstructing and obfuscating the truth. |

Strip malls just aren't being built anywhere ('cept here) because the ones that exist are failing or half failing.. The malls up the line have a hard
time getting and keeping permanent tenants. Park must know this. One has to wonder what his real future intentions are...........

You mean his real intention is to initially build a mall, tear it down if it becomes unprofitable and then build what he really wanted to build to begin with? Oh, do tell! |
