Have a terrible earwax problem. Literally can't hear. Maybe I don't want to hear it, whatever it is. Get to office, met by the foxiest 30-something woman I've seen in years. Dark-skinned, maybe Italian, very dark hair, tiny hips and a full bosom. Gorgeous face. Time for some Facebook. Doc's assistant clears one ear and schedules me for another visit. I go to pay for less than 1/2 hour visit. $120 for the initial visit. Sorry, but that is too much despite the hot babe receptionist.

In the old days most doctors would make adjustments in the fee if you did not have insurance. In this impersonal, money hungry, me-me-me, only think of yourself society today, sadly, this is the way it is. It is a rare medical doctor these days who would do that. The fees are too high everywhere in this country, and it will be a lot of years and a lot of people suffering before the general public realizes and fights for some form of national health insurance.

I see no reason for you to think my post was blaming doctors. I'm really not that naieve. But ---- it all works together, no matter what you think, and it goes round and round. Insurance companies set prices and fees; Medicaid and Medicare don't pay enough; doctors still get wined and dined by drug companies - which keep drug prices high; and yes, I do believe, that a kind gesture once in a while by a doctor to lower a fee for someone who needs it, would go a long way. That's all. The thing is, the patient would have to query the doctor personally in the exam room about lowering the fee. The secretaries and receptionists are not the ones to speak with, as they do not have the authority. One on one with the Dr. would put him/her on the spot.

I have noticed more and more that Doctors do not want to deal with two problems on the same visit if they are unrelated because it would be less money for them. They have to bill for two separate visits in order to be compensated for each procedure a/o time is my guess? 2 ears = 2 visits = 2x = 30 min./per visit? I don't think it is right or makes any sense but I have been seeing this happen more often. The chick receptionist is purely for entertainment and to compensate you for your dissatisfaction! (07/24/08 01:20 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Friend Request Blocking Visit My Community Ignore User's Posts	Do it yourself - Hydrogen Peroxide (fresh - not stuff sitting in bottle for 2 years), eye dropper, gently put several drops in one ear, lie on your side with peroxided ear up...you will hear mucho fizzles, stay in that position for at least 10 minutes (read if get antsie). Repeat in other ear. Take small ear syringe and fill with warm water. Gently wash loosened wax out of each ear. May have to repeat. $200 cash, please. Procedure is exactly what they do in MD office. ~ a popsicle smile reaps what it sows ~
