Those are nice ideas, but al fresco dining holds no interest for me until they keep the dogs off Main Street and clean the sidewalks. They're gross.

The cleanest downtown is, sadly, is after a block party because the organizers clean it up. It should be mandatory for shop owners to clean their areas, regardless of what's in it, and the street should be swept two or three times a week during the summer.

Add to that a few more stores that offer good quality, more practical items at a good price rather than boutique prices, and they might have a winner.
